One of my three hens, that has been sitting on ceramic eggs, had a big surprise this morning, I put 18 chicks under her, straight from the post office. At first she pecked at any thing that moved, but now she has calmed down a bit. She is trying to keep them under her and some won't cooperate (like every other kid I know). There is fresh water, chick starter and some freshly pulled weeds with dirt for all of them to enjoy. I will keep an eye on her all day, but i thinks she is going to be just fine. I purposely left all them of the hens on those eggs, knowing this chick order was on its way. Now I just have to break the other two hens from being broody.

oh my I bet she had no idea what all that goin's on under her was about...lol.lol.lol........if the other 2 are broody you might want to take 1 or 2 of the way ward chicks & put them under each hen to break the cycle.....if you do it at night just after dark that will help them adjust to having the chicks...if they all haven't bonded with the other hen by now...with 18 though I think she is still not sure what all they sound like so you may be able to get away with it....without fights or hard to the chicks....lots of fluffy butts at your household :)...Michele'

Awww This is so sweet! I plan on sticking the chicks I hatch in a week and a half in with my broody hen. Hopefully it works out. How is your hen doing with her new babies?
