I'm hoping some of you wonderful Sisters can help me figure out how to get through this point in my life. My dh's career has kept us in the South for 40 years, but it was always understood that when he retired we would move back to Indiana. We bought a house last year and have been remodeling and last week we actually moved the last load of belongings. He is still working, so yesterday he left to go back for two weeks, then he'll come home for two weeks. He'll probably be doing this for a few months until we're clear on the financial situation. He's retiring several years early, so there are lots of things to take into consideration. My emotions have been all over the place about this. There are many, many positive things about the move- the area is beautiful, there are so many things to do, I'll have four seasons again, we'll be close to our families, and the biggest thing, after being 1000 miles away from our kids for many years we'll be 50 miles from one, and half a day from the other. These are all great things and I keep trying to remind myself of them, but all I seem to be able to think is " I want to go home" to Texas. I miss it and my friends and my church so much I can hardly bear it. If I'm not crying, I'm on the verge. I have dreams that we changed our minds and went back. So, dear Sisters, has anyone been in this boat? How did you get out? I pray and pray, but sometimes I'm not even sure what to pray for. I thought if anyone can help me get some perspective it would be all of you wonderful Farmgirl Sisters.

Karin I do know how you feel. I moved from California over 20 years ago to head east for DH's job. I still miss Cali everyday. I long for the ocean and the mountains but I thank GOD everyday for my family. I recently made another move and being that we are only 70 miles south of were we had lived for the last 15 years, I'm having a bit of a hard time adjusting. I find it helps to get out and get involved in our new city. Even something as easy as getting a library card made me feel better. Today I'm heading over to the Farmers Market and know it will feel good to again meet some people and see what my new community is all about.
I pray that you will find it in your heart to know what's best for you and your family.

Sending you prayers of strength and hugs,
-missy-

Karin, My heart goes out to you! I know just how you feel. Although i moved from napa valley ca, to Birmingham al. 2600 miles to be exact... I was very hard for me. Mind you i wanted to go, but i was never ever this far away from my mom and family. All my family is here in ca. My husband had a brother and sister out there in al. We needed a change and decided to go. when i got there it was very hard on me. We moved off of a very busy road (i don't like it, but was useded to the sounds), I would lay in bed and cry and imagain the sounds of the the cars racing up and down the road. And the sound of my little window unit ac blowing on me. Eventually i got over that and got useded to the sounds of all the critters out there. Which were a lot! We where living in the country there. So lots of animal noises... The best part of this story was, i knew the Lord, but not like i know him now! Alabama was where i found a place for church in my life again. I found the best church i could for myself and my family. And that became my life! I went to ALL the services and got to know people better and that was how i survived out there. Happy to say i have stuck with it even coming home. Found a great church out here that my family goes to (not extended family, but my hubby and kids and i). I keep all my extended family in prayers and one of my sisters came with us on Easter Sunday and really enjoyed it, says she will come back with us! :).
As for the move i remember we where driving up the little road his brother lived on and i had eveything i owned in my car and truck, we had just been on the road for 4 days. And i was thinking we could turn around right now and just go home! If they don's see us it will be okay, we can just go back... Sad to say it did not happen. But i did have a life changing experience from it, that i will hold onto for the rest of my life. It's like Jesus pulled me out of my everyday life to get my attention and say "here I am"! I RAN with all my might into His loving arms, and will NEVER turn back!
Although you have palnned this, look for something good to come out of it... Look right away for a new church to jump into. That will help you find "like minded" friends, also look for a farm girl chapter to join up with. AND we are ALL here for you if you need a hug or just need to talk! Sending Farm Girl Hugs and Love, Kristy

Praying for you to find peace, the peace that surpasses all understanding. Cast that one on Him. You may have to continually cast it on Him, daily and perhaps many times a day. Go church hunting and hang in there His wants in this matter will become clear and then you will have a bit of understanding as to the why and wheres of it all.
I went from California to Alaska. I know the feeling. Hugs and blessings.

It is so hard to move! Over the last 25 years,we've moved a lot and often to places I wasn't thrilled about (I'm packing boxes again as I write), but looking back, each time has been for a reason that ended up being for the better. It's so hard to miss all the people and things you love about your home in Texas-maybe after you are settled a little more and establish yourself in your new home, you might feel better? Just hang in there and know that it's okay to feel the way you do. In my experience, I've found that the one thing you can count on is that things never stay the same for very long. I hope that you will feel better about your new home soon and can stay in touch with your friends from Texas (thank goodness for email, etc!)...sending you hugs because I know how you feel and how hard this can be. Stay the course, Karin...things WILL get better, I promise!!

It is hard to be apart from family, both our immediate and church family. Right after my father passed away, the Lord called my husband and I to Colorado. It was so hard leaving my Mom (this killed me!) and brothers especially only a couple of months after my dad had passed. I felt like I was abandoning my Mom, but I knew I had to obey the Lord's calling. It is easier when we accept His will knowing that He does have a plan for us and it is even better than what we could imagine or think. I am praying for you Karin to be content and at peace where the Lord has placed you.

Thanks to all my sisters for listening and praying for me. Little by little things are getting better. I joined a knitting group here in Nashville and am enjoying that a lot, they're a lovely group of ladies. Keeping busy working on the house and trying to find a new church family. Thanks again for your prayers and encouragement.
