Hi Alexis, Happy Easter. Welcome to the forum. Where are you from? Would you tell us a little bit about yourself please?
My name is Taffy. I live in Southwest Florida. Hubby and I have 3 kids, ages 19, 17 and 13. (Girl, boy, boy) We also have 3 dogs, 5 gerbils, 2 rats, and 2 quail. We are going to add another dog to the chaos later this year. I am considering breeding my gerbils again, and I am currently incubating some quail eggs. I garden, craft and home school the one child who is not in college. That would be the 13yr old.

Welcome, Alexis! You sound like a pretty busy gal! You'll meet lots of girlfriends here with similar interests. What will you do with your quail. Do you live in the country? Will they be penned, or will you release?

Hello! I am Alexis, I haven't been able to log on since my first post. Finally got it figured out today. The lady with the quail is someone responding to me. I am 48 yrs old, no children, 2 cats and a dog, lots of crafts beadings, learning to sew and embroider now, I garden and cook and my husband and I are looking for some property so he can build a dome house and we can start a small organic farm.
Nothing to major, just some chickens, doves, I'd like pigs and we plan to have a greenhouse down the road.
We just made our first Kambucha tea not to long ago, but didn't like the look of our Scoby, we through it out, we were using a ceramic vessel. We want to get non leaded glass I think, any thoughts anyone?
Oh, I am a nurse in an outpatient surgical unit, and do Csection call a few times a month.
I am excited to be able to blog and will look forward to adding pictures as I get more advanced...
Thank you for the wonderful welcome!

Hi everyone thank you for the lovely greetings My name is Alexis and I am 48 yrs old. I am a nurse, I have a dog and 2 cats. My husband and I are buying land to build a dome house and a greenhouse, I love to garden and cook. I also make beaded jewelry and am learning to sew and embroider and do other types of crafts. We plan to have chickens, doves and pigs so far.
Silverweed
Silverweed is a yellow flower and it means "simplicity". I chose it for for my screen name because Silver is valuable even though weeds aren't considered valuable. However a weed is only useless until someone finds a use for it...
Thank you for all the wonderful greetings, I look forward to getting to know you all. Sorry for the late reply, but I've never blogged before, I'm afraid I'm not very tech savvy. |

Hello all: We are experiencing interesting weather here in the Northeast. Rain, then sun and warm, then severe wind yesterday, I thought someone was walking on my roof!!! and then cold just above freezing today. I am amazed at the hardiness of my plants, my perennials from last year that are coming up, mint, onions, roses, strawberries, but also echinacea, columbine, and a few others I need to look the names up as I've forgotten since last summer:}
It's been a lovely Saturday, I've had some good fellowship with girlfriends this week, and tonight my husband and I are enjoying a cozy evening keeping warm.
We haven't found a property yet, but we are looking every week, I will keep you all posted. Hope you all are having a great weekend! Alexis

Thank you Marilyn. I met with another friend in the area with similar interests today, we are garden buddies, and told her about the Farmgirls, I am hopeful she joins. She has a plot of land already. She and her husband are building on that spot and my husband and I have thought of getting the piece next door so we could share farming responsibilities.
My hubby is out today looking in another area at another plot as well, so the search goes on. I am home taking care of domestic duties for the week and enjoying the sun streaming in the front window, through our stained glass "fish tank" as we call the fish design sculpture in our living room.
the 2 kitties are in sunbeams on the floor...
have a nice Sunday all.

Hello:
Well I've just read my posts from 2 years ago and I realize how far we have come! We found land in a rural hilly spot, cleared 1/4 acre at the front and built several buildings; a dome shed, a dome wellhead cover; a dome chicken coop; plus my husband put all the water lines in and hooked up electricity himself. We have a camper enclosed with wood and 3 inches of insulation. The foundation for the house (also a dome ) should go in this spring.
We have a lovely mixed flock of layers and last year had turkeys and meat chickens. Also got the herb garden in and a small vegie plot plus lots of decorative perennials.
This year my goals are to plant fruit and nut trees. We just got a puppy and are working on her training and have 1 cat (Crabby Abby).
Interesting that it is 2 years almost to the day since my last post. It has been a long winter and it's a great reminder how far we have come.
Spring is on the way!
