this will be quite a rant so please hang in there with me. as some of you know i have had a journey the last 3 years, breast cancer and advanced coronary artery disease at the same time. i have been so busy trying to get well. in the midst of everything my primary physician retired so i have been trying to replace him; yesterday i had my 2nd visit with my new dr. she is 2 hours away from the farm, the weather was pretty severe, her office is just north of dallas, texas and there was an accident on the freeway, and no handicap parking available. it took me 20 min. to find a parking place but it was a good walk from the building. anyway, you guessed it i didnt arrive until 10:30 and my appointment was at 10:15. they cancelled my appointment for being 15 min. late.
what do you think?

OH my gosh what the heck happened to compassion and understanding? I am so sorry you had to go through that Fran, I would find me a new doctor which I know is easier said then done right? I would have just stood there and cried (loud) until the doctor saw me"-) I am a big baby! Sweet Farmgirl I will keep you in my prayers and pray things get better for you, please rest and take care of yourself.

yes, i just couldnt understand this philosophy. i used to be an occupational therapist and i remember driving miles to an appointment and i would have to wait til my patient finished watching "wheel of fortune" before i could start their therapy. i just cried and cried all the way home, maybe i am just in a bad mood.

Fran, I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I'm sends lots of hugs your way. Like Debbie said, have a good cleansing cry. That always helps me. Feel better soon. Marly

Bless your heart! I think I'd be looking for a new doctor. They think nothing of making us wait for half an hour or an hour. We are just as important as they are and, just think, they're getting paid. I wonder if they'll try to charge you for missing an appointment. Sometimes I think it's the staff and not necessarily the doctor and they're just trying to show their "authority." If you decide to reschedule, I'd have a little chat with the doctor about what happened. My mother has a saying whenever someone says something that's insensitive, rude, or dumb --- "Consider the source!"

Frannie, I do belive I would have had a hissy fit right there on the spot. Doctors do have an oath to uphold, you might want to remind them of that. did you tell them there was a accident on the way and it couldn't be helped? That was just not fair and I would write them a letter telling them so. I mean you are pretty handy, but I don't think you can control the weather and car accidents. Nancy Jo

thanks to all you sweeties who took the time to send me hugs and kind thoughts, they were well received believe me. i do not intend to return to this doctor, and i believe when i get a little past this i will probably make a complaint about this. i am insured by 2 insurance companies so i think they should know what happened and also i am legally disabled now so i think i will probably find out if i can get some action there. i just dont want this to be their sop and allow this to happen to other folks. we are supposed to be the consumer.....i thought. in the meantime i think i will just enjoy the farm and my crafting. thanks again for all the love and support......i could really feel it!!!!!

Frannie,
I can't believe how you were treated. Everyone has spent many minutes waiting for doctors. It is so arrogant to cancel you like that. I do encourage you to write a letter voiciing your concerns.
Meanwhile, I hope today is a better day and you are enjoying a crafty day. If I am not mistaken, you still have nasty weather.

Aww I'm sorry Fran please remember that all things work together and maybe you weren't meant to go to this Dr.. Might have been a quack. However with that being said, I have to travel 2 hours to everywhere and I have learned to belly ache till they see me. Wish I could have gone with you sweetie. I say some receptionist needs a boot in their hiney! Sorry you had to go through that. Do you have someone there that can go with you and fight for you? You shouldn't have to do any fighting with any meatheads like that. Hugs and Hugs. Laura

You know when my mom was having a hyperglycemic episode and halucinating I took her to a similar doctors appointment-- yes, I was 15 minutes late EXACTLY due to it being almost impossible to get my mother out the door in her condition.
Thank God I had my own appointment the same day for a minor issue and I was able to give her my appointment. Seeing my doctor that day literally saved her life.

Fran, that just is not right. Without patients, doctors would not have a job. They literally work for us!!! Let them know that!! I hope you can find a dr. closer to you and one that you can trust. Where has all the compassion in people gone? Hugs to you.

I can see both sides of this issue since I do work in a medical type office. If someone is late to an appointment, it can put the rest of the appointments behind schedule for the rest of the day. That's not fair to the other patients. However, there are exceptions and every effort should have been made to get you seen the same day, even if it meant waiting. Our policy at work is to give patients a ten minute "grace period", after that we will still try to see the patient that day, but they may have to wait. Most people seem to think that's fair.

I'm so sorry!! I'd look for another doctor also. I don't care what their schedule is, seems like a little flexibility would have done wonders for both of you!!
It's okay to rant and get it out!! Then pick yourself up, find the phone book and start calling for other doctors.

They should have worked you in. There is no excuse for them. None. You got your cry in. Now, if it was me, I'd do what you said before. Complain and take any other action you can. They need to not do this again to anyone else. This is a doctor's office. I agree with several of the other girls. I'd have thrown a fit like Nancy Jo said. In fact, once my dh had kidney stones and was in huge pain. He went to our doc's office and they didn't want to see him b/c he had no app't. He just told them: "I'm sitting down and I'm not leaving until you help me!" They saw him! I wish I could have been there to stand up for you! Lots of Knob Lick Country Club farmgirl hugs!

I would not go back to that doctor, but I would have stood there and made security remove me before I gave up and left. I always call every 5 minutes when it looks like I am running late to let them know I am coming and tell not to cancel my appoint. They get pissy after the second call but who cares, traffice and weather are not predicitable.

thanks so much for all your support. i called yesterday and made an appointment with a local doctor.my other doctors really wanted me to have a primary physician in dallas, but i think i will do just fine with a local person here in the country. i also called my insurance company and filed a complaint against this doctor and intend to call medicare as well. i am legally disabled so i will at least give the powers that be chance to know what happened. thanks once again to all that have responded with such support and kindness.

New Day, New Outlook, you did just right Frannie and I hope it makes you feel better. I think you will be more comfortable with a local doctor, and you do not have so far to go and someone who cares about you. Now you can take a deep breath, relax and enjoy your Easter Weekend with your family, but remember to rest, no more stress"-) Take care sweet farmgirl, I will continue to keep you in my prayers, heart and thoughts. Happy Easter, Happy Spring. Hugs, Debbie

I'm soooo sorry Fran! I used to work with doctors who WERE focused on the patient and their needs and their families. I truly hope you can get some resolution to the problem. And, I would write a letter describing the situation and the issues you had to face. How were you supposed to 1) know about the accident and 2) know where you'd find a parking space. AND, I'd hope that there is NO billing to your insurance but that is certainly something I would followup on. If there is billing that is dishonest, because services weren't rendered. I'll be praying for you as you deal with this . . . . HUGS from this Farmgirl! CJ

Fran, I'm so sorry this happened to you--I can't understand how they could cancel an appointment after 15 minutes. I know that when I was pregnant with Violet, there were times that I was running late, leaving from work and I'd simply call and say, hey, running late and they would say, "don't worry, he's not at ALL on time."
And honestly, how many times have you sat in a Dr's exam room WAITING ON A DOCTOR for more than 15 minutes? What I've noticed is that often, the Dr has no idea any of this goes on--these are policies that the office staff sets up and in many cases, the office staff thinks they run the show. My OB/GYN's office finally got rid of their "evil genius" in billing because she was a terrible to deal with and many patients stopped going simply because of her demeanor.
I would file a complaint online--there are MANY places patients can review physician's offices this way, now and it helps others to form opinions.

Oh Frannie! I can emphatize with you. I hate looking for new doctors, gone are the doctors of old who actually cared and listened to their patients. Doctors today will only give you 15 minutes for your appointment, don't really listen to you just catching the key words of your symptoms then they do nothing but prescibe drugs that they have no idea of their safety! If you question them (as any good patient should do!) they get insulted.
We missed an appointment for DH one time by the same 15 minutes. After I threw a fit at check in, they squeezed us in later that afternoon. It was a good thing, after one test, the doctor sent my husband across the street to the ER of the hospital for an emergency appendectomy (it had perforated by the time they took it out). If I hadn't have complained he'd probably be dead.
They have no compassion for you being 15 minutes late but plenty of excuses why they keep you waiting 15 minutes or longer. And yes, I understand a lot of it has to do with the staff, but remember, who hired that person! Good luck with you doctor search. I'll pray that you find a good one this time that will help you on your road to healing.
Audrey

i am trying so hard to get over my fussiness, and i do believe all you girls have helped me find my way out. i think i am so tired of being sick and i just dont have a lot of patience left for people in the medical field that have a business attitude. i spent all my life in medicine, starting when i was 14 and working as an ekg technician and then retiring as an Occupational therapist with a masters degree. when i used to teach students i would tell them, this is an art, not a science and if you dont have empathy or sensitivity to people when they are sick, it doesnt matter how smart you are you probably dont belong in this work. get a job in a dress shop where you might ruin someones day but you really cant ruin someones life! omg, what has healthcare come to in this country.....oh yea, wealthcare. i have wonderful insurance but even i have a hard time surviving this large corporate system. thank you to all the lovey farmgirls here who have reached out to me once again. i cant wait for the day when i have no woes to tell yall about and i can return the hugs to my beautiful farmgirl sisters. i love you all,,,,,and some of you so much, and you know who i am talking about. (my sweetest farmgirl, jonni!!!!!) i have missed you all so much. and by the way hope everyone has a blessed easter and that these lil chicks make you smile. much love from texas
