Are there any CM homeschoolers here? I'm going to be starting on this adventure next fall with my own son, and I was wondering if I had any farm girl sisters who used this philoshophy of homeschooling too.

Sarah, I need to have my eyes tested! Not at ALL to scare you or poke fun, but I just quickly glanced at the title of your post and read "Charles Manson Homeschoolers". I'm VERY relieved that this isn't the case :)

Yep yep, I'm on Ambleside, and I'm in the yahoo support group too, but I was thinking that it would be awesome to have some farmgirls to talk to as well.

I too have been checking out Charlotte Mason and was pointed to the Ambleside direction. I haven't had time to check out any of the resources I was given but hopefully in the next month or so! After checking out a bunch of different methods I think Charlotte Mason is the one for me! What age are you beginning homeschooling at? I'm starting at the baby stages of pre school right now..

Krystie, I'm starting my boy next year in grade one and he will be 4 then. I'm sure many people on the support group would frownm seeing as how most seem to start around 6, but I'm sure my guy is ready. He's almost reading now, and he defintely needs the structure. All the CM homeschooling stuff I've looked into for preschool doesn't suit him. And I'm pretty laid back about it all, if he doesn't seem to be getting it, then I'll just repeat again next year. :)

Neat! My soon to be 3 year old daughter is pointing out letters and numbers to me so I'm continuing to build off that with her and my soon to be 2 year old soon isn't too far behind her except his speech isn't as clear but it never ceases to amaze me what kids are capable of learning and retaining no matter what age they are!

You both sound like you are on the right track. All I can really say is have fun with it and end on a good note. That way it stays fun and encourages doing more.
We go to the library on most Fridays and I let Bri pick four or five books that she is interested in looking at. (Mostly non-fiction) That way she looks at the books while I pick up a few books for myself. She has picked some very interesting books. Insects, Art, Knights, Swords, Roman, etc She likes that fact that she gets to pick the books she wants to look at.
My method of CM has gotten a bit more relaxed. We still read tons of books, but I have included unit studies and lapbooks/notebook/scrapbook type work. We are planning to do a American girl unit study for the American girl books. Bri loves American girls and history so it is a great fit. It spans from the 1770's until the 1940's unless you do the later dolls.
Good luck and don't hesitate to try different things. It is such a fun journey!!
