Hi Kristina, I have been going back and forth, comparing all different tents, cabin style, dome style etc. Wall tents seem too expensive for my budget right now, but I am bound and determined to have my own backyard glamping retreat set up in the backyard this spring/summer/fall. Kinda wanted one with 2 rooms so that I can set them up like bedrooms with the raised queen air mattress that I have, and 2 twin cots on the other side. Want to do some campouts with my DD and my girlfriends and their daughters etc, as well as my own family of 4. I would love to see/hear what you have in mind. Do tell!![](icons/icon_smile_big.gif)

Keep in mind, 'palletts' are free and are great to re-purpose into "tent floors'... you can scrounge boards off the extra palettets to fill in spaces ... using 4 -8 pallettes to create the raised floor, depending on the size tent you want to build. Plus at the end of camping season the palettes can be picked up and stored.
Speaking of cabin tents... at the Cabela store, I saw a smaller version of the type that MaryJane has. It was on display, with 2 twin cots, a little faux fire place (room heater) and cute nite stand... It is not uber heavy duty so probablly needs to be taken down at the end of Summer. It was about 8x8 and it was kinda kool! The ones MaryJane has are uber solid & sturdy and made to withstand the Idaho Winters. I think, if we didn't have such strong winds out here on the Plains, I'd talk hubby into building one. But alas I will have to settle for my little vintage trailer addiction! lol!

I was going to say the exact same thing about pallets. We built a porch floor with them, they are great. Seal them to keep them even better in the weather.

I think a wall tent would make a fabulous backyard camping hangout for family and friends. All of the ideas above make it start to sound very doable too. Depending on where you live in the US, there may be long seasons that you could enjoy having it up. It's unique ambience seems like it could be practical and a fun way to have a special retreat without actually buying a vacation home. Like the trailers, it could easily be "glammed up" for personality too. One day I hope to travel to Idaho and stay at Mary Jane's B&B to experience what looks like just the best time ever! That idea is rising to the top of my Bucket List!

In my reenacting world many use wall tents. They are not that hard to set up once you get used to them. Probably need someone to help, I don't think one farmgirl can do it alone. Our friends use old rugs as flooring and if the ground is wet or just damp, a plastic tarp goes down first, then the rugs. Hay is also good flooring under the rugs. One place to buy good tents is Panther Primitives. Another type is called a Baker Tent. With this style the front opens completely up if you need that. Another advantage to this tent is you can add a canvas wall down the middle to create two rooms, if needed. My husband and I use a extra large A-frame tent with a porch (called a fly) on the front. It has served us well!

Wall tents are fabulous:) I've been living in one for nearly a year now, and I can't sing it's praises enough!
Some of my friends are thinking about setting one up as a backyard getaway, too, and it sounds like a wonderful idea. I got mine off of Craigslist for a good deal... be sure to watch out for them on there.
