I went ahead & made a set of templates from a sketch I did. It really helped me to feel like I wasn't going to waste fabric while I worked. Iam trying to think of it like crazy quilting where nothing really has to be perfect.

I got all my pieces cut out I just need to start piecing it together. I may be alittle late in mailing out, but I noticed Barbara is in Macon which is just 2 hours away from me so it should only take two days for my package to get to her. I should be done by the end of the week.

I hate to do this, but I am dropping. I have never bailed on a swap before, and I am terribly sorry. I have tried and tried and tried, and I can't even get anywhere with just a sketch. I had so many ideas, and I can't even get them to work out right on paper. And I'm afraid to start stitching because I can't afford to just throw away fabric if these don't work out.

Again, I am so sorry! :(

If we need to extend the time frame we can....... and if you want make the traditional house block with crazy color / fabric. They still would be considered wonky. Think about it, Barbara

I've already cut my fabric if it helps anyone I managed to squeeze it all into about 4 & a half fat quarters. (I had to use 1 & 1/2 for the sky.) Thats only five bucks & some change if you get the ninety-six cent FQs at Walmart...

If we can pull this off then its a great learning expirance & like I said, I already cut mine so Iam still in even if I end up pulling my hair out in the process. :)

I found it helped in making my template if I first drew an angled line for a hill & the postioned the house on it & the pitched the roof off that so it all sorts of gently slides down the hill...We can quilt San Francisco...

Oh, I also forgot to mention that I didn't add windows, door or chimney to my template design. I realized that even at 12" x 12" that was too many small pieces to add in. I think the key would have been strip piecing & then cutting on an angle but thats too much thought for a first try. I'll be appliquing the windows & such once Iam done piecing.

Thank you Barbara for all your encouragement, and please forgive me my frustrations the other day. I sat down with the graph paper again last night and came up with another, definitely WAY EASIER house design. If you'll let me, I'd like to give it another go. Won't be sewing for a couple of days (have some serious baking to do while it's going to be cool enough), but as soon as I'm done, I will email you.

Yay, Ann! Way to go!

Iam still working on mine, but I wanted everyone involved to know Iam still in. :)

Has anyone else finished theirs yet? I hate to think Iam the one holding things up. I've just been super busy with my son's health.

Mine are on their way to Barbara's house, and I posted the tutorial of how I made mine (based on Fran's input) on my blog if anyone wants a sneak peek.

Iam hoping to have mine finished soon but Iam going out of town this week.

Will hopefully be done around the middle of next week. Its more an issue of having been super busy instead of just being stuck inspiration wise.

I haven't had a single second to sew in weeks! :(

Iam off today & tomorrow. I spent all day today cleaning the house in hopes of having all day tomorrow to sew, so hopefully I'll be done with them by the weeks end.
Honestly, Iam getting sick of not having time to sew.

Thanks for understanding, Barbara.
I over slept this morning, but now Iam finishing up breakfast & then I'll take a shower & get to work. Luckily you live only 3 hours away from me so it should only take a day or so for you to recieve them. :)

Hi barbara,

I have pulled out the pattern on how to do these several times but I am still stumped on how to do them. I leave for vacation to see the kids the week of the fourth but will try to do my best on getting something done on these before we leave.
I am sorry to be holding up the works.

Hang in there Nettie! You'll get it. You can follow Fran's ideas or mine (mine are on my blog). The key is to applique the smaller bits and do the rest like strips, making the goofy angles however it works best for you.

Glad everyone is still in!

Ann's right, once you stop trying to work around the windows & doors it gets super easy...Iam thinking theres a way you can do it without a pattern at all. Like with crazy quilting but I can't even begin to think of a way to explain it. Once Iam done with the set I started for this swap I might try to do it what Iam thinking & take step by step photos. If what the way Iam thinking actually works then they could be cranked out quite quickly. But yeah, definally applique the small pieces! To try anything else is to invoke madness!

I got my first round of pinning in & Iam just waiting for coffee to finish brewing then Iam up to go sew, iron & pin the second round. At this pace I'll have the blocks finished by tonight. Then I'll hopefully have alittle time between my two jobs to get the applique done. If not Iam off Saturday morning so it'll get done then. :)

If so then I should have you address for the print out I did. If not Iam not sure how to get it from you till yahoo is back up. :(
