How about that Farm Gal Can Do...
I'm sure we all have books that could be passed on.
I'm going to organize getting one built for our area.

Thanks Peggy,
I'm like a woman on fire with ideas, I need (not want) to get one put up to be sponsored by our dog park.
Then I was thinking, outside my husband's Acupuncture business...the box could have a chinese flair to it...
Maybe my work, have a 2 story box, children's books lower and other books upper...
We have a small memorial park downtown Chippewa Falls, called Harmony Park in memory of the students and adults that died in a bus crash a few years ago.--good spot for one.
Maybe out side of the local schools for those kids on summer vacation...
at the grocery stores....
at the gas station...
by the city pool...
at farmers market...
Ohhh I got to quit thinking, and start designing...

I also saw a news story about this and thought it was such a neat idea! Not sure where one would work in our town though, things are spaced very far apart..

I condacted these people via the web site info you gave. They will send you a built one for $400.00. CHOKE GAG COUGH SPUTTER!!!! So,I advise everyone to build your own. If you don't live out in the country.....you can put one on your front lawn. That is probably what I will do. Rather than ask some one to put it on their space.

Hugs,
Peggy

Just jumping in for a second sisters.

My daughter lives in downtown Baltimore, Maryland. She tells me that down the street from her is a hair design studio (fancy hair doin' place) and somebody asked them if they would put a small table out front for free book exchange, and they let her!

Wish I had a picture of this....it's just an old card table, with a tablecloth on it. On the front hangs a poster saying reading is fundamental or something like that.

There are a couple of old plastic milk crate type boxes stacked on the table full of books. Kids books in the bottom two & older books in the top. That somebody is responsible to put up and take down every day.

Daughter tells me she has dropped off books she's picked up at yard sales that come in a bundle (takes what she wants & gives the rest). Says there's always people hanging around looking at the books.

Sign says "take a book/leave a book - FREE".

All it takes is the desire, sisters.

Later and good luck.

Hugs and Squishies!!

Kathy

Kathy...it is funny you said that about the upscale hair salon and the cart outside...
because the place where I get my hair cut...they have Novels on the Counter with a Free Sign.
I guess there are more ways to give books away than just the little Library Nooks.

I also, give a free book a month away on my Blog-Site if anyone is interested.

Blessings,
peggy

That is such a cool idea- i love the little boxes, but they are expensive. I am going to ponder this. I have 3 boxes of books as i was just finishing my spring cleaning. I trade a lot of them on Sawp.com but i am just getting tired of having them in out little house. Need to make room for the grandkids books too. and i think i have bout 5 tubs of them...i've kept over the years books are so expensive. Nice idea- i was surprised at how many are local to my state. I've never come across one.

All - This is such a great idea! I have this great large old wood birdhouse that looks like an old house that I'll cut in half and put hinges on it to make a free Itty Bitty Library. I'm going to put on a stake in front of my bungalow and make a wood sign to hang off of it, I can't wait!! I have so many old Victoria and Teatime Magazines to share as well! You all are such an inspiration!! Thank you!!

I think "Little Free Libraries" are an awesome idea and have been brainstorming ways to implement one in my neighborhood. Maybe at the local park. It would be very easy to find recycled materials to build one with. This would make a great community service project for children!

Cheers! ~ Marilyn

OH!

My husband and I are making one too! It will be in the exact image of my "Mr. McGregor" gardening shed with cedar shake shingle roofing and a copper cap as well as painting it a real barn red color...

Can't wait until we get it up and running.

Aren't Little Free Library's COOL???

Melout, you're gonna have to post a picture of that when you're done. I loved the Peter Rabbit story when I was a child.

We bought the cedar shake shingles for our little library this evening....When we have it in place I will post photos. I think I am going to put it somewhere in front of the picket fence I have spanning the the front yard. We get a fair amount of "walkers" with and without kids and a lot of bikers since they re-did our street and sidewalks. I am really excited about it!
