Remember when I posted about my mother buying the fabric for a bithday quilt for me? Well, yesterday I completed sewing all the blocks but one. And I have decided that I don't care for quilt blocks. I prefer the raw-edge applique method. Although, the more blocks I sewed, the quicker I got.
Anyway, now I need to trace all the applique patterns.
Does this happen to you-----now that I have sewn some of the blocks I don't think I like the colors I chose. They looked so pretty in the store!

Yes, but usually with yarn.
Part of the problem is the lighting in the stores. They use flourescent lights, which distorts the colors of everything: floss, fabrics, yarn - you name it. I've even had issues with scrapbooking paper!
If nothing else, you've gained experience, and you've learned what you don't like. Sometimes, that's a very important lesson.

I have a quilt friend that appliques ..... she takes out more stuff sometimes then leaves in her quilts. But I agree the lighting in the stores sometimes make things look differently than at home. I have taken fabric outside or by a window before if I am trying to match something else. Just ask the shop owner before you go outside..... would hate to see you arrested (LOL) for trying to match some fabric. Imagine what the news would be " Quilter running in and out of a shop ... was she confused about how to steal? News at 11" I have also added more of the fabric that I do not like into the quilt sometimes you can balance it out..... the uglies do make the pretties shin. Good luck with your quilt!!

Yep! I have had crafter's remorse more than once! Good luck! It breaks your heart to put so much work into something and not absolutely love it, doesn't it? Marianne |

If anyone is interested in seeing the quilt I am making, look up "Northern Wilderness quilt pattern".
I have been working on it almost every day. and have sewn all the pieced blocks and have traced, fused and cut out all the applique pieces for all but two blocks. Whew.

Loyce I love that pattern. It would fit into my house perfectly. Everything in my house has that sort of theme. JoAnn |

I too have bought fabric, pattern then cut & sewed only to end up with an outfit and think,, "What was I thinking"?... and then put the outfit in the "Donation basket". Oh well.... sewing keeps me out of the Honky Tonks! lolol!

IT'S DONE!!!!!
I took the quilt back up to AK last month and my mom put it on the longarm. I did some of the straight lines (!) and she did all the fancy stuff. I am at work so I can't access my photos but I will try to post one later.

I know there have been projects that I just didn't love, and tried to turn them into something else, but the magic just wasn't there. It is good to hear others have similar experiences.
