You may remember that I had asked for information on raised bed gardening a while back. Ron wasn't very receptive to the idea. We have talked desultorily about it a few times.

So---------------------:

Friday I come home from work and he wants to show me what he has done for the garden. Yikes. I wasn't pleased because he had not liked any of my ideas so I was not sure what I would see.

Well, he had turned over the dirt where one bed will go. And had dug a dozen postholes for the fencing.

So my garden area will have two 4x16 beds. We will only do one this summer to see how it goes.

Ron said that he waited until the sun was high to make sure the spot he picked got good light. It is about 30 feet off the back end of the house so we can easily run a hose out there and put a hose timer on for watering. That is my biggest concern, because I am gone camping a lot during the summer and the plants will suffer!

My plans for this summer are to grow tomatoes and zucchini. But I thought I would only do one small bed. So now maybe I can add broccoli or carrots or lettuce.

There are some local businesses that sell heirloom seeds and starts so I will check there.

Sounds like a man in love. Happy gardening. Keep us posted on how well the tomatoes and zucchini do.

What a good man! Yes, please keep us posted on how it goes. I had troubble last year with my dh and my gardening plans. I put a long raised bed behind the deck(I did all the digging and toting and planting and maintaining - he dragged the railroad ties over and slid them in place)and then used some large containers against the back of the deck with other stuff in front. It was so great looking by summer's end, the way he braggesd about it, you'd think it was all his doing! ;)

That's the only bad thing about gardening when you want to go on vacation and there is no rain in the fore cast. So last summer I paid my niece to stop by and water my garden for me. They also sale timers to connect to your spicket. Anyways happy gardening.

You'll probably have both those gardens filled up in no time. Gardening is like potato chips, you can't have just one and they are very addictive. I don't think I could ever have a small garden. Lots of work but fun and the food is so much better. You will be so happy! And will hubby be halping?
