Joey was raised here from birth, and came from one of our other female barn cats prior to getting them "fixed."

He was so loving, as are the other two. He was always getting into mischief and was brought in several times to doctor up. He was so special to us.

When people hear "barn cats" they automatically think mean and nasty cats, but ours are not.

We will put a head stone on his grave and flowers too. Later today we'll have a ceremony for him.

This hit the kids the hardest. There were a lot of tears shed.

He was just as much part of our family as the indoor pets. He was only a few years old, and I am feeling horrible for not knowing he was hurt prior to finding him.

How we found him, is on my "pioneer" blog.

However, the fact that he came to the house and crawled into the tote means a lot to us - knowing he came back to those who loved him.

We are really going to miss that handsome cat. One dd even had a blog about him.

Poor guy--I've never thought of barn cats as mean or nasty--around all the barns I've ever been to, they are always jovial, sometimes skittish, and hard working, hard living kittehs.

I'm so sorry for your loss--he was well loved, and he knew that. Being close to home when he felt terrible must have put him at peace somehow. Sorry to your family and his cat family, too.

We had to say good by to our 12 year old barn cat this summer. She had skin cancer and was slowly getting worse. We couldn't let her suffer. She was so sweet and smart. The horses loved her, the labradors were afraid of her and the chihuahua terrorized her - until she grew tired of pretending to run away.

So sorry for the sadness you are going through. It is a good learning lesson for the younger generation though...

Kristina: I am so sorry for your loss. The important thing to know and remember was Joey knew he was wanted and loved, thanks to all of you. I'll say a prayer for Joey. Hugs to all.
Again, I am sorry.

Krsitina and family-
I am so sorry to hear about losing Joey.
It really is amazing what an animal will do to make their way back home, and truly touches your heart. Our pets whether in the house or outside are part of our families and losing them is difficult no matter the circumstances (but especially when there are children involved!)
I am sending prayers for peace for all of you, knowing Joey is smiling down from above.
Hugs,

~Laurie

I'm so sorry to hear about Joey. We lost one of our cats this past summer at age 16. It is never easy. Some may think that at the death of a pet, the pain is not as "real" but farmgirls know better. Any living, breathing thing that brings pleasure, laughter, love, and joy to our lives---well, when they leave us, it is very painful.

You and yours ane in my prayers.

Darlene

Dear Kristina, I read Joey's blog and saw the beauitful pictures of him. I am so sorry for your loss, they are never just barn cats to those that come to care for them. They become our children in fur coats. Sending thoughts and hugs your way for you and your children.

Kristina , am so sorry about the loss of Joey. Wherever he was when he got hurt he wanted to come home so you all would know . He showed his love for you before he passed away. I really believe that, so no one would always wonder what happen to him. He knew that you loved him.
The headstone is so sweet. I'll pray for you all.-Marlee
