In the past we had a big party, colored eggs and had the egg hunt of course. Then we'd put all of the egg color into water guns and shoot each other and play other outdoors games. We'd grill and cook a nice feast, fix baskets for everyone, and have a great time hanging out. Since the majority of my family are Christians, we did an "Easter" celebration but I would usually plan it around the equinox regardless of when Easter was. I want to do something a little different this year--all of the most important women in my life that helped in planning the party and enjoyed it most are all dead now so I'm feeling a little off, and just not sure what to do this time.

Rachel- One activity you can do regardless of spiritual path is to plant seeds of your choosing in a pot,with a wish/prayer for whatever you want to grow in your life this year. Applies to all ages. Then those who participate can take their potted seeds home with them & nurture the plant just as they nurture their wish. Sorry for the losses in the planners-I know I've been thru that too. I'll take a look in my books & see what else I can come up with that would apply.

I do like that idea Sherrie, thanks! I've got some seeds my mom had put up (for who knows how long) that I am planning to put in the ground. I've also got all of the plants from my mom's funeral (and am amazed I haven't killed them yet, as my thumb isn't very green) and I've been thinking about putting the ones that can go outside out at Spring.

I am likely just going to do some planting and eat a chocolate bunny.  I don't live that close to my (mostly Christian) family, I haven't found a hof here in town, and while the Mister is Christian his family doesn't make a big deal about Easter.
My boss had talked about putting a maypole in the store's front yard (even though she had no idea what a maypole was--but she liked the sound of it). However, we are likely going to be moving to a new location before that happens.
A hook, a book, and a good cup of coffee.... |

You know,I've never danced around a maypole-but that would be for Beltane,(May 1) Been busy with the store the last few days-haven't forgotten this thread & am glad you ladies like it! I'll make a point of looking thru my books & see what ideas we can hatch. Wow - I better get a move on that too- it'll be here before you know it! Remember it's also a time of balance as the day & night are of equal hours,and we're in the light half of the year.

We did a Maypole dance when I was in elementary school, just one year but that is the only time I've ever participated or seen one done! Do you have a book called Circle Round? I have that but I don't go to it very often as it is more Wican inclined (and I'm not) but I have read it and it has some good activities in it (and now that I wrote that I'm thinking "why haven't I looked there yet" haha) that are adaptable.

Yeah, I explained its use and meaning, and all she said was, "I just want motion to attract customers." *long-suffering sigh*
I was invited to an Ostara gathering next weekend but won't be able to go, which is very disappointing.

I've been looking thru a "new to me" book I got last week by Emma Restall Orr & she mentions also bidding a thankful farewell to winter for blessings received in that season (Facing North) and then welcoming the maiden of Spring (facing South) you can also give packets of seeds to those gathered after saying a prayer of blessing over them in addition to exchanging small live annual plants,such as pansies and the like- getting a ponypak at Lowe's would make this very reasonable to do-I picked up a pnypak at my lowes for a mere $1.98 & got 6 gorgeous pansies which are now in my black kettle/ pot o gold planter on the porch. You could to gifts of small vegatable plants or herbs that way too. Hoping these ideas are helping you out! And don't forget music- if there's anyone who plays an instrument they could play to add to the celebratory nature of the Equinox.

I celebrate, but in my own kind of quiet way.
I make sure I have yellow daffodils for the table. I make a meal that means "spring" to me - this year I found a recipe for poached eggs over asparagus. Sounds just about right. We make maple syrup, so some of that over vanilla ice cream for dessert.
I always plant something outside - early things like lettuce or peas.
And I take a few minutes to stand outside and say a little "thank you" for the changing of the seasons, and all of the blessings in my life.
That's about it.

I've been planting seeds. I've also planted some flowers from my mom's service in one of the beehives. I bought some peeps (my mom and niece's favorite easter candy) and will be putting some on the ancestor altar as well as outside for them to enjoy. Both of their birthdays are within the next week so I'll be doing something special for that as well. busy busy time.
