Now that I'm home, I'm trying to write and in between that, do all the housework and take care of hubby and animals.
The hardest part seems to be sitting down and DOING it!! Once I'm on the computer, I want to check this board and that board. It's tempting to play around, not get down to business!
Finally, I have my office set up so it's comfy to me, just need to get the discipline down and WRITE.
I've already written two articles, hopefully published, but my books (three) are languishing.
This is harder than I thought it would be!

I know just what you mean. I have been carrying 2 short stories and a novel around in my head for years. When I "tell" them, everyone loves thems and says I should write them down. I have written down the basics but have found that when you "tell" them people they fill in the details in their head. When you "write" it, YOU fill in the details and it's hard. I love the challenge but what I've learned is that the more I write, the more I know that I have much to learn about how to write.
You could try what I do with cleaning-I clean for 45 mins. and when the timer goes off I give myself a 15 min break.

I remember reading that Hemingway always stopped for the day (he wrote eight hours every day as if he were in an office) in the middle of a page--usually in mid-sentence. That way, he had a starting point the next day.
Of course, Hemingway didn't have all the lovely distractions we do today! (Reminds me, I have a story to work on too.)

| I use the 45-15 schedule too, write for 45 minutes then get up and do something physically active for 15. Fold some laundry, go give the horses some carrots or walk the dogs. It really helps me focus during the designated writing time, and it keeps my butt from going numb! And, another biggie, I write on a laptop that does not have internet access, which keeps the biggest distraction out of reach! |

I think that if I were ever able to quit my day job, I would take a couple of weeks or more between leaving my old job and getting down to work with my work-from-home job, so the new found freedom would wear off, and I could make all of those mental adjustments that would be necessary. It would be awesome to stay home and just be creative, and get paid for it. Definitely a dream I keep close to my heart.

Jo, yes, I've thought about it. I was thinking I could somehow work my trucking blog into some chapters.
As for taking a bit of time off, yes, I'm finding that is true too! The newness is starting to wear off and a routine is shaping up. Hubby is getting his home-legs (as opposed to sea-legs) under him. I'm also finding I have to have things 'just so' to write. So, I close the office door about 3/4th of the way and write or rewrite for a bit.
