I'm not sure which fault line, and though I didn't "feel it", it is what caused my daughter's farm toy and kitchen "burner" to go off about 4 am. The rumbling caused vibration and made the toys in her room go off--it scared my husband and I to death to wake up with a start to the sound of rapidly boiling water and the "Farmer in the Dell"

My husband forgot to turn on the alarm clock this morning, but for some reason I woke up a little before 4 a.m. which was right about the time it was taking place. I didn't consciously feel anything though.

I think it was on the madrid line... the news was saying it was felt in 4 states.... well um... it's part of the border of 4 states.

The Mo is welcome to get all the natural disasters out of it's system before I move! LOL.

TBH, I'm starting to think about Joplin... the odds of a tornado like that again is next to nil, all the new construction will be put up with tornado safety in mind, and the out of staters will avoid it keeping real estate at a low price. Hmmm.

Jen, We have lots of friends who live and have lived in Joplin, including my husband!! at one time or another. If you ever have questions about the area, please feel free to ask!

I read about the quake. Was it very strong feeling?! Wow. Sure don't need one of those in that area!! Here in Okie land, we are dealing with both tornadoes and earthquakes. Who'd a thought it??

My Aunt was one of the ones who lost her life in Joplin...I am so glad that they are rebuilding, and there are sooo many people who have set their lives aside to help...I live in California, and have for many, many years, I will never forget the big earthquakes here, and yes, tornado weather is broadcast, but you have a better chance of surviving an earthquake than tornado, according to statistics, and everyonce in a while, by the time the sirens sound, its on top of you...

We had some blow through in downtown Kansas City last summer, right after the Joplin storms. I was working from home that day because the tree guy was here clearing up a huge tree that fell during a different wind storm. So, while the sirens were going off around here, I took the dogs to the basement, took my winter coat that would shield me from flying debris...rubber boots, etc....the tree guy was still outside working. I went out there and told him that he needed to come inside, but he said, "Awh well, let me know if it gets close and I'll come inside." After my second trip outside, he finally came in. THEN, while the sirens were still going off, the FEDEX guy knocks on the door. I said, "Did you know that there are tornadoes in the area?" He said, "Yeah, I have the radio on. I'll keep an eye out." People just don't take the tornadoes seriously.

Jonni - I'm picturing waking up to the sound of children's toys and all I can envision is a scene from a creepy horror flick....

I think it was 1976 that here in Pleasant Hill we had a terrible tornado. My daughter at that time was in kindergarden. I was home with a little one. They had to take all the children from the schools and go to the churches. I never got real concerned about tornados before, but believe me, I am alert to them now. The room my daughter was in, was pretty messed up. Once the first tornado with through another was right behind it. They didn't even have time to warn us of the second one. So please pay attention, and the signs of the approach of tornados. I'll never forget the yellow/green look of the sky/air. It was weird! This happened before, 13 years before this one. Never doubt what they can do! Stay safe and take cover. Hugs,Brenda
