So apparently (Hubby has decided) we are getting a conversion van for road trips and possible transport/living arrangements for him on the ND pipeline. 4 captain's chairs and a couch/bed... Not sure what else is in it, but looks like we're getting it this weekend!

Do any of you ladies have Conversion vans? Any ideas on how to make this thing homey for our 'visit all the extended family in one fell swoop' trip? Will be traveling with a 4 month old and just us two.

I will add pics this weekend for sure :)

hmmm, depends on the 'brand' (maker or the conversion) and is it new or pre-owned?
One of the ladies who camps with us brings her conversion van which is cute & cozy. It has a bed, a very itty bitty kitchen-ette (mini sink/fridge and counter for portable stove). It has a super small closet(perfect for stowing the portapotty) and the Capt Chairs turn to face the back of the van and has a insert for a bistro table. She loves it....but like so many of us vintage trailer lovers,,,she told her hubby she wants a trailer & he can camp in the van! lol!

It's a '95 Starcraft conversion on a GMC van. It's white with burgundy leather and gray carpet/interior. It has the raised roof, which is great because my DH is 6'2"

We're getting it on Saturday. I'm thinking of taking out a captain chair, adding the pack n play with Jr's play mat in the top, and getting some nice blankets for the couch/bed. It has a cd and a dvd player, so I suppose we won't be too bored! Should be an interesting trip. I'm thinking a kitchenette won't fit... but I'll see when the darn thing gets here.

Enjoy it! We have been traveling with our daughter since she was tiny. The kids seem to love any type of camper, maybe it's like a playhouse for them. I always feel like its time that we really get to hang out together since there aren't the distractions of being in your house. Even with babies it's great. I love being self-contained.

We had one years ago and used it quite often for traveling and even camping in campgrounds. Once you put your own touches in it, it will feel like a mini home. Enjoy!!!

DH is so excited... he keeps pulling up the pictures on his laptop and just looking at them- it's kind of... romantic? In a way. An odd, vehicle adoring way. The man had over 20 vehicles (mostly project trucks) when we met, so I knew what I was getting into.

My parents have had these for years and love them. After I joined Sisters on the Fly my mom decorated theirs on cowboy theme and it was so cute. Since then she has gotten a vintage camper. Now when we go my mom stays in her camper...and my dad stays in the "bunkhouse" as I have termed it! Lol.

Happy Trails!

Howdy Grace! We are planning a trip for Memorial Day! Now with National Glamping Day I have to plan a trip or maybe a party at my house or something! I won't have three day weekends this summer so not sure yet how it's gonna work out yet! I can't wAit though! We are getting a huge blizzard. It snowed 6" in 2 hours this morning. They've declared a Snow Emergency! Makes me want camping season to get here even more! :). When is your first trip?

Happy Trails!

Natalie, Check out some of the online camping stuff they have. You can get a fold=up kitchen set up and put a little gas camping stove on it and have everything you need right there. Always remember to bring roap wherever you go to run up a laundry or drying line for whatever gets wet, it may get a musky smell if you keep that stuff bunched up in a van too long. A canopy would be nice to add a little added room outside. Once you look through some of the camping websites you will get lots of ideas. Check out MJ Ideabook for a "cool" little makeshift fridge.

God bless,

Judy

I've got a Ford Conversion van/moterhome with an upper bunk. I'm working on bringing out her Character... Gypsy?? Shabby Chic?? Hippie Chick?? we aren't sure yet. I love it for traveling by myself.. very easy to drive... although I'm looking for a Vintage Travel Trailer to play with too.

So we got the van. It's lovely on the inside... fug-tastic on the outside, but that's A-ok for now, works as theft-deterrent, I think. It's nice to have so much room, but man is that thing a boat. I think I'll come around to it once I can pretty it up a bit :)

I will definitely be looking into the camping themed sites/stores.

Thanks ladies!

P.s. we're thinking of painting the driver's side like the A-team van and the Passenger's side like the Mystery Machine...

Thanks Katmom... Grace. I'll be Glamping in your area in June. My Mom, daughter & best friend plan on heading that way for Farm Chicks. We've never been before. Gonna Glamp in Riverside St. Park. Hope to see lots of sisters Glamping nearby. We are all looking forward to it.

I have 2 of those. One is an 89 starcraft but doesn't run anymore and I also have a 95 that is customized by a different brand but close to the same. I sort of like the customizing by the starcraft better than the newer van mostly because it has curtains instead of shades on the windows. I love my van. It has taken me many miles and is so very comfortable. I used it a lot to take my Dad places when I was taking care of him and he was in a wheelchair. I also have hauled a horse trailer soooo many miles too with it. I even pulled a trailer with a tractor loaded on it, all in perfect comfort. So Natalie I would say you are in for a treat!
