It's the perfect time of year to do your rabies shots if you haven't already,the skunks are coming out and it's thier breeding time so they are more likely to encounter your horses and other stock during thier increased activity so it's a good time to do your rabies,I do mine every year this time,just thought I would throw that out there as a reminder.

Oh that is a bummer about your friend's dog getting sprayed,one of my cats got sprayed once and came in through the pet door and laid on the couch,not good! There was a horse got rabies here a couple years back and I tell you it was the most awful thing I have seen so I am real sure to do my equine and dog rabies shots faithfully. My vet said February was one of the riskier months because of the skunks getting around and breeding so I use that as my deadline to do shots so thought I would pass it on.
