Okay, I sent a package to one of our farm girls ; it had 3 knitted items in it
I went to the post office down town and mailed it
Got it back yesterday;
It said no such address.
the package was opened and my knitted items gone !!!
I am so angry .
I didn't insure it ; I thought I could trust the post office to send it and it would be sent and my friend would get it
I am not blaming the post office ; but someone took out the knitted items and pretty card I sent .
This is wrong and it makes me mad!!!!
I worked hard on the knitted items . ugh ;
thanks for listening . lol hugs sheila

Mercy me, Sheila! That IS SO WRONG!!! Actually it is a federal offense. And I can only imagine how you feel!!! I'm soooooo sorry!

There has been a rash of mailbox vandalism in my neighborhood lately. Seems like it comes in waves! One of our neighbors daughter saw someone on a motorcycle stop at their mailbox and go through the mail. They took down the box and go to the post office. Another neighbor's box was "lassoed" . . at least that is what it looks like . . and the post pulled completely out of the ground, the mailbox (plastic one) in smithereens and one of the two stabilizing protective metal T-posts pulled out and missing. He had just put all of this up as the previous box kept getting bashed. He told me he was surrendering and just going to go to the post office too. Their box has been vandalized EVERY SATURDAY NIGHT for the past 5 weeks!!!

My guess is it wasn't the post office . . . somewhere along the way it got pilfered. Unfortunately, it happens and it's hard to find the culprit. I'm so sorry for you and your friend!

We have an ongoing problem with this kind of thing where I live, and I too have had mail and packages gone thru or just plain stolen...the Post Offices solution is get a PO Box, but they rarely have any available, and private boxes cost money, plus alot of us do not go to town often, so that is a pain also...

Yes this so wrong. I just recieved a package last Sat. that was opened and the contents taken. I went to the post office and made them fill a report to try to find my idea. The post office sucks.

Call the attorney general in your state and complain.Or send a letter, and send where they have to sign for it. Or better the Postmaster general and tell them your not going to let this go until something is done.

I have called the postmaster many times in the past, they say there is nothing they can do if its stolen from your box, the postmaster generals office will take a report, but then again nothing is done...i even called our local newspaper, they did a story, but nothing has changed, and probaly never will...

Yikes, this is crazy! Maybe desperate times have people looking for easy stuff they can steal in the mail? It's still pretty sad that it's happening :)

This does need to be reported. The P.O. needs to know as well as the AG in your state. I would recommend sending "flat rate boxes with delivery confirmation" which comes with the "click n'ship" on the internet. The rate is reduced for the box and the delivery confirmation comes free.

We had pilfering in our neighborhood too; school kids coming home from school would pull down the doors of the rural mailboxes. We settled that with putting up clustered boxes so that we would need a key to get inside. Makes the street look nice and neat and stopped the kids. Don't know who was raising them, but it wasn't their parents.

I know exactly what you mean, the same thing happened to me quite recently! I mailed my farmgirl journal to my partner and she received an empty envelope, the PO is investigating but I dont feel that it will turn up, now I have to make and send another! Ugh!

Hi :) Now I am worried. After reading this thread, I went & checked on a package I mailed on Feb. 3rd for a swap. I had delivery confirm on it & it says it was out for delivery on the 6th & no further info is available ??? It is like the postal worker fell off the face of the earth. I emailed my partner to see what is up. I hope she got it. What is this world coming to ?

Blessings

I ordered seeds and the package came ripped open and then I guess my mailman, really sweet guy, saran wrapped it back together. No seeds missing since thieves don't think those are "valuable." I did read once that someone took a regular size mailbox and then put inside a really big mailbox and filled the empty side spaces with cement. Now when anyone comes along to play mailbox baseball with their bat they have a big and painful surprise waiting for them.

Madeline, you can google that particular P.O. and find out the phone number. Then call and they will be able to find out what is going on with your parcel. I know it's wrong to steal mail, but with the amount of evil in this world today, we have to deal with it as best we can.

that was sweet of your mail person to do that for your so you wouldn't loose your seeds.
You can also insure your package ; but it is a little extra .

Thank You Betty :) If I do not hear from my swap partner soon, I will try that. Seems my swap partner may have fallen off the face of the Earth, also :(

My hubby is in sales and back in fall all the salesmen from his store got a massive bonus of "points" for their rewards program--- He redeemed them for 2 $100 Visa Gift cards!

They were mailed seperately, and we recieved one and not the other. It literally took MONTHS for the company to reimburse us for the stolen card they were able to cancel. Thank goodness it was something that could be resent... our local carrier is BAD at getting stuff to the right address. I've thankfully been extremely lucky to miss only one important piece of mail.

Years ago, a friend of my hubby's "Walter" (deceased now) was sick of UPS leaving packages at the end of his long driveway as opposed to bringing them directly to his house. He had a friend who lived out of state mail an empty box to him. When the box arrived, he filed a claim against UPS stating that there was some expensive jewelery in the box and that it was stolen. If UPS had brought it to his house, the jewelry would be in his possesion. He won the case and UPS delivered to his doorstep until the day he died.

When I was a child still living at home, I received birthday cards from one aunt that every year arrived torn in half and inside a plastic bag, with a note of apology from the post office that said my card had been destroyed by sorting machinery. We didn't think anything of it until some years later, when the same aunt begrudgingly remarked to my mother that she had never once received a thank-you note from me for all the money she had sent me on my birthday over the years. She had been putting cash in the birthday cards, and I never saw a single cent. Somehow, the "machine" always knew which aunts sent checks versus the one aunt who sent cash.
