Does anyone else here do embroidery digitizing? I'm just getting started and am so excited about being able to turn my doodles into embroidery designs and I can apply my "original art" to my handbags! I'm a little nervous about it too. The software is very intimidating, but I've made my way through most of the tutorials and I think I'm about ready to try making a design!!

Maybe I can come up with a cute Yak design!! They are awesome. I was ogling them on your blog. They look very Viking-like.

I have all the software for digitizing but it turned out to be more complex than I had hoped it would. With my program, the hardest part was getting a clean enough edge on the art work for the digitizer to read as one color instead of adding in all kinds of shading that wasn't in the original but the scanner picked up tiny variations when it was scanned. I found if I edited and did the actual color blocking on the computer rather than paint or marker or colored pencils on paper, I got a much better result. Be sure to have clear areas of color - too much blending just messes up the ability of the digitizer to separate into thread colors. The best designs to use are vector designs - the colors come out more accurate. I am sure the newer programs are much easier to use - mine is about 8 years old now. It's hard when the software is so expensive to just replace with newer. I hope you have less frustration with it than I did.

Blessings, Sheri

Sheri, The complexity of the software is why I'm taking it slow and trying to get through all of the tutorials and learn all of the software's functionality before I jump in. I've been reading the forums for Embird and I can tell by some of the questions, who has read the instructions and who has not. Yet there still seems to be some finesse involved with lots of practice. I'm prepared for things to not go perfect right away, and hoping my experience as a software developer and working with a lot of software packages in the past will help me figure out a few of those tricks hidden behind all of those options and menus!

That would be so neat, Paula! I have a little embroidery machine, but it only takes the cards! Maybe I should get one of those usb doohickeys that you can load a blank card up with new designs on :)

I'm trying to learn how to do this too. I have recently had more success drawing pictures manually than trying to use the built-in automatic digitizer. I've had the software for a couple of years but don't have enough time to become an expert... When I retire, this is another thing to add to the list. I understand there's a newer, better version of my software out, but I haven't decided whether to upgrade right away or not.

Do you mind if I ask what program do you use, Paula?

Natalie, I have Embird software. My husband gave me the main package and the different plug-ins for Christmas and my birthday. So, now I have everything but the cross-stitch plug-in, which I don't really care to have anyway and the alphabets. But I have the font engine, so I can digitize font with it, instead of using the pre-digitized fonts. I don't anticipate using much fonts anyway with the artwork that I'm doing. I'll be working off of my own doodles too, instead of trying to trace existing images mostly.
