I have heard if it forever but never read it. I know there was a movie, didn't see that either. Picture on my site. I'm going to start reading it tonight. I know, I should put the title here but sometimes I'm not nice.

I saw the movie when I was young and only read the book much later. I like them both, although they are quite different. The movie features the old song with the chorus "cockles and mussels, alive, alive-o" and every now and then I get that stuck in my head, just the way the actor in the film sings it! I haven't seen the movie in probably 20 years!! So if you ever watch the movie, just watch out is what I'm saying.
I've also read Joy in the Morning by the same author, and from what I read about her on wikipedia that novel is very much autobiographical. It's about a young couple with little money who marry and have their first baby while the husband is in college (at a time when that was very much not the norm).
And you'll notice, Nancy, that I didn't give away the title of the book either! |

It is on my reading list, as are SO many titles. My Husband read it awhile back and he is forever putting quotes out about this and that. For that reason alone I figure it must be a good book as he has never done that before :)

I do have this book. I got it at a thrift store a few years ago. I am going to read it soon. I am reading My Side of the Mountain now. Another old book.

Nancy, You really started something this time. I thought I had a copy of this book somewhere. Found it in a group of hardbound matching classics that I got a t a garage sale last year. It had never even been opened. It is a lovely book with a leather cover and sewn in ribbon bookmark Well, I started reading it last night and stayed up much too late. What a richly written and lovely story. Can't wait to get my chores done today so I can dive back in Thanks, Michele

This was actually required reading in school when I was in the fifth or sixth grade. I remember it well.

I found my book the other day. It's huge! And the writting is VERY small. I need reading glasses to see it. I am on the 3rd page so far. I can tell it's going to take a LONG time to read it. But I am going to.
