Hi all--
Wondering if you gals can offer some advice. This grinder belonged to my husband's Great Grandmother Galligan. It reads "Keystone", L F & C Co., Boyertown, PA. It came with 3 grinding plates, and 2 bolts. But, in addition to the grinding plates and bolts, these two plates were found with it. One reads "nutbutter" and the other reads something that I can't quite make out (at least in my marvelous photography shots, but they don't seem to go with this Keystone 120 grinder, but they are, however, made by the same company. You can see the different centers compared to the other plates. I'm sure they go to another grinder, but just not for sure. Any ideas?

Jonni, my mother had a grinder just like that. However, I can't help you with your question, sorry. I'm sure other girls will come in and let you know. That picture sure brought up a lot of happy memories.

the one plate that says nutbutter is for grinding any nuts into like peanut butter...it helps press out the oils so it creates a creamy nut butter for you...the other at the moment I can not help you with but it may be one for grinding like corn or grains...I have one of these but have never found the parts to it so mine only does meats or very coarse ground corns or nuts.....Will you use it?...I think every house hold now should have something like this on hand for those in case times....you should have fun with it once you figure it all out...Michele'

Glad I could bring some happy memories, Marly!

For some reason, your post reminded me of what the other "plate" in the picture reads--"universal bread crummer"

Thanks for the info, Michelle--I think we will try to use it if we have all the parts :) I think it would be a good tool to have in the kitchen. Especially since I'm too cheap to buy the meat grinder that goes with my Kitchenaid mixer!

I know, Amy Grace, doesn't that sound cool! Back when making bread crumbs was part of a daily necessity!

I agree its good to have one. We have an electric one but the one like this we hold onto. You never know what you might find a need for!

I would love to play with the pieces... you say that you have two bolts. Are they slightly different, to match the centers on the plates? Maybe you need to put two plates together.

I wouldn't be surprised if these are still made by some other company, and with a little googling you could learn about all the pieces.

the one on the top left looks like a bread crumb plate/attachment. From my experience, you put on the flat plate first (put in freezer first for about 30 minutes before using w/ meat) and then you use on of the 2 plates on the right hand side. These wipe the meat off of the flat plates, into your bowl. Of course, the bolt goes on last to hold the 2 plates in place. It looks like on your flat plates you have a very coarse (maybe for the nuts?), coarse, and then fine grind plates. I keep all parts lightly coated in olive oil to prevent rust. Also, the worm gear (the spiral thing on the inside of the unit) needs to be cleaned really well and kept oiled, or you'll get funky metal bits in your meat. We have an old grinder similar to that but I don't like the way it works...looking for another style. :0)
