Hi yall! My name is Rachel and I just wanted to introduce my self and say how happy I am to have found you girls! I have been a farmgirl at heart my whole life, and now I have found an entire website dedicated just to us! How great is that?!?! I am a stay at home/homeschool mom of 3 little boys, and for now we live in a small subdivision with our 18 chickens (so far no complaints from the neighbors)And way to many other pets... We are hoping to sell our house soon and buy about 5-10 acres were we can raise healthy happy kids and a big garden and some small livestock, we've been looking into goats, not sure at this point. Well I guess that is enough for an intro, I will keep reading and I am sure I will post again soon! Again I am so glad to become a part of your group!

Hi Rachel!! We sure are glad you found us! 18 chickens? I am so jealous! My friend and i are about to spring the news on our husbands that we want to have a little chicken coop co-op!! If we do this together, it will soften the blow. Well, that's the theory anyway.
I love Tennessee- it's one of my favortite places to visit!!

Welcome Rachel - 18 chickens!! Do you sell the eggs or supply other people? I have 9 at the moment and can't cook fast enough to get rid of them (coming into spring here, so I am getting 8 a day - don't know what the 9th one is doing!) My husband said the other night he was all egged out!! Made lovely ice cream last night - he ate that without complaint!!
Happy to have you here and look forward to chatting,
Jayne

HI Jayne, I know, 18 chickens is an awful lot. But they are a mixed group (some roosters too) and they are still too young, not laying yet...probably next month. We are planning on eating the roosters, mostly to keep the neighbors happy! I aslo have promised to give them all some eggs as a "thank you" for not complaining about the chickens running around our yard. We have a chain-link fence around the back yard and I let the chickens out of the coop for a few hours every afternoon to chase the bugs in the grass. As it gets darker they just head back into the coop to roost and we close them in for the night. I just hope that the neighbors don't get tired of the eggs because we use alot but it will probably be about a dozen a day and that is alot for our family of 5. I guess I will give it more thought when it happens, and if they ever start laying?!?!?!
Talk to you soon,
Rachel

Welcome Rachel!! We have chickens too. Most of them are bantams however we do have a few standards. You'll find a place for all those eggs, the neighbors will love them. Nothing is better than a fresh egg. Our roosters don't fight too much but most of them are bantams. It is great to have you as part of the family!

Welcome Rachel.
I've no experience with chickens, but I'm with you in homeschooling. I have four young boys/men also and then one little girl. My oldest is a junior at all-boys Catholic high school and I homeschool 8th and 4th grades and preschool. We're city people doing our best to live in a country state of mind.
Best of luck to you.

Glad to have you, Rachel! It sounds like you are well on your way to creating a farmgirl life - in your subdivision or on your soon to be farm! How exciting! I just love chickens, too - you'll love the fresh eggs - like, Kelly, I agree that there's nothing like one. Welcome!

XOXO, Libbie
