Hello fellow chicks!
We will "re-unite" and meet on Saturday, February 18th as follows:
Details:
Saturday
February 18 Great Backyard Bird Walk – William Floyd Estate
9 am – Noon (Free program; Rain/Snow Date: Sunday, Feb.19; call for information 631-399-2030)
This ranger-guided bird walk, in cooperation with the Lab of Ornithology at Cornell, helps observe, document and
record numbers of birds found at the William Floyd Estate during the annual Great Backyard Bird Count Weekend.
It’s a great way to get outside and enjoy nature in winter and participate in a vital citizen science project at the same
time. Bring binoculars and dress for the weather and a 3-mile roundtrip walk.
This will earn us the "Expert" level of the "new" "Bird" Merit Badge from the garden gate. (Of course first you have to do some homework and complete the beginner and intermediate levels)
Please let me know if you can make it. As always our meetings are open to all!
Hugs,

~Laurie

I have some pictures to post of our Bird Walk... wish I had more to share!!

An Eastern Bluebird in flight (this bird was number 1 on my wishlist!!)

Either a Downy or Hairy Female woodpecker.. hard to tell from that distance

A Red-Tailed Hawk

This is a giant Osprey nest

A couple of Gulls relaxing in the inlet

This is the house on the William Floyd Estate. William Floyd was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. The Floyd family dontated the estate to the State of New York sometime in the 1970's. It is a beautiful place to visit if you are ever out on Long Island!

We heard the calls of many birds during our walk, but I wasn't able to photograph them all. It was a wonderful experience and I will definitely do it again!!
Thanks Laurie & Pilar for an amazing morning!! Can't wait for our next meeting... It should be a baby chick meet and greet with all that we have going on!!
