Hi farmgirls,
Don't know if you're aware, but as of today, January 22nd, it now costs
45 cents to mail a 1st class letter and 32 cents to mail a postcard.

I'm sure package and other rates are increased but I don't know specifics.

Thought you might want to know, in case you didn't.

I am SO sick of the United States Post Office...Time for privatization! Nothing like a little competition to keep rates down!

It makes it so difficult to try to run a small business especially when you are on line and have to ship your products around the country--Flippin expensive as it is and now another "hike."

Grrrrrrr.....

yes, CJ, I heard that just yesterday. I guess the P.O. forgot to mention that to the public.

Yes the forever stamps that you have already purchased are good to go no extra postage needed. Yes other items did go up but packages did not. I know mines not the popular opinion but i still think .45¢ to mail something is cheap, Could you drive to pay that bill for .45¢ in gas, i dont think so.

Doesn't it feel as though stamps go up every year?
In my P.O they don't give you an option for regular stamps, they always sell the Forever stamps. Do they cost more?

Yeah, it is cheaper to mail something. My point, which I didn't point out (my bad!), was the PO is so badly ran, they deserve every bit of adversity they generate. Badly managed. Not to mention, I've had things mailed and took three weeks to make it across country (or cc in two days??) and have received mail badly beaten up, in a plastic pouch.

Teresa,
The "Forever" stamps cost whatever the rate is at the time. The good thing about them is that they are still good if the rate goes up. And, I heard a worker in one of the two POs that I go to say, that all their first-class letter stamps are "Forever" stamps. I didn't ask but it sounds like that's all they make for 1st class letters.

That's still cheaper than us up here! It costs $0.61 for in Canada, to the US, it's $1.05 & International is $1.80. And you can't forget about the tax on it either! You can get the "forever" stamps here too - I think if you buy them as a roll or whatever, the price is the cheapest one at the time. So you could buy them today, and if it goes up tomorrow, they still work. Which is good. But I never think to buy extra stamps.
