I am starting to wish I was able to be up with the sun and down with it! I get up now every morning between 4:30 and 5:30 so I can get my horse chores and house chores done and still be able to get bathed and ready for work. We have a long commute to work but it is SO worth it! But now I am starting to feel the stress of the new hours. I used to stay up to all hours but now I am thinking that shortly after Nora falls asleep is a great time to go to bed!

My DH often does this. He'll tuck DD in and then he's all of sudden tired too and falls right to sleep. I think it's a natural rhythm of the body.

Thanks Linda- Some of the stess has been because Nora is sick and needing care in the middle of the night. Last night we were up twice and then she still got me out of bed earlier than my alarm clock. I am REALLY looking forward to spring when I will be able to do my chores during predawn at least. Right now I am just counting on my good night vision and going by feel!

Get a headlamp. It will be your best friend during the winter months when the days are short. Strap it on your head while you are doing chores and you have hands-free light that shines where-ever you look. Just don't shine it in your horses' eyes. Mine hate it when I do that.

This is the time of year when I start reading the sunset/sunrise times in the newspaper avidly - looking for extra minutes of daylight. Somehow getting up at 4:30 when it's light or shows the promise of it is so much easier. And there is absolutely no shame in an 8:30 bedtime:)

Alee. I think it'll take a while for you to adjust to the newest of things. It'll get easier as time goes on. I'll keep you in my prayers, hoping things get better adjusted for you.

I have gotten up around 4:30 every morning for as long as I can remember, don't even need an alarm clock, and I go to bed on the average of 9pm, every night...you will get used to it, and will find yourself waking before your alarm, and there's nothing more beautiful than greeting everyday with a watching of the sunrise...

You'll get used to it after a while (hugs). Dh and I are now getting up at 4:30am to be at the gym by 5am every weekday.

That is so funny because I was just thinking this morning while throwing hay that a Headlamp would be AMAZING! I will have to see if my dad has one I can take. :)

We had to stop at Walmart on the way home so I hit up the camping/outdoor area and got a LED headlamp. I used it for evening chores tonight and it worked great! :)

Glad the new headlamp is working out for you. We've even used them when the power went out..we can walk from room to room without carrying a flashlight. It is just automatic to strap it on when you walk out the door.
There was a time when I was actually using TWO, because my old one just didn't put out enough light. Then my husband gave me a new one for Christmas last year that has a wide beam, and it is awesome. You can get it from Amazon:

Thanks for the link, Paula! I will have to look into getting that one two. I have an inkling that they are going to become handy items around the house. Now that we live in the country (hooray!!) we only have two yard lights to illuminate the yard which actually isn't that much difference from where we used to live because the closest streetlight was a full block away!

Alee: I love that word "inkling", it has always been one of my favorite words. It just sounds nice.
I have one of those headlamps, really comes in handy.
