| where is a good place to get reasonably priced soapmaking supplies? I am just getting started & am looking for some ideas from you soapmakers out there. Also, does anyone have an opinion on the melt & pour method? |

I use Bramble Berry and Wholesale Supplies Plus
I don't really like M/P, but everybody's different. It's nice if you have small kids- no lye around the house for them to get hurt with.

| Natalie, I will check them out. Thank you. I don't plan on doing much melt & pour but my son (8) saw a book for kids and a lot of neat ideas so we thought we would try some of that together, but I want to make soap by myself to. |

I purchase from Wholesale supplies plus and another local supplier, Ingredients To Die For. I like melt and pour for quick turn around and it's easy to build a stock of soap to sell. It does not bring in the same kind of money as cold process soap, though. Wholesale Supplies Plus has lots of free tutorials and ideas for melt and pour.

Natalie,
I was looking at the sites you mentioned and wondered if you had used any of the cold process blocks with the lye already in them that one of the places was advertising? It says you just grate the amount you need and add the coloring, essential oils, etc. that you want. I have used regular lye in the past and really liked it, but this would be nice if it is good.

I used Wholesale Supplies Plus - they are awesome! If you are just going to try it to see if you'd like it, check Hobby Lobby, Michael's and JoAnn's - they all have supplies, too.
Also, I did M&P because I could do it with my small kids without worrying about all the chemical reactions. I had excellent results - even sold some through 2 local businesses for a while (that's why soapmommy for a username). I like it better than straight cold-process soap because it is gentler on my skin. I have never had issues with M&P - maybe it's all the glycerin that's in it.
Wife of terrific hubby and mom to 2 teenagers, 2 bunnies, 2 geriatric goldfish, and the best dog in the world!
