Man, I tell you what. In the past few years I've found SO MANY wonderful foods I've tried that I never thought I'd like.
Mashed potatoes (Long story)
Oatmeal
And just in the last couple weeks, granola! It's amazing! I've never made it before-the homemade stuff is the BEST!

Megan, I really enjoy quinoa. I cook it in almond milk for breakfast and add applesauce or dried apples.
Glad you are discovering more foods.

There was just something on the news about how great quinoa is for you. I need to egt some now. And isn't that funny how when we get older we aren't afraid to try new things, no matter how ugly or strange it looks or smells? I so remember my mom making me eat just ONE Brussel sprout when I was a kid. I still remember that nasty taste. Like puke. Disgusting. And I said I would NEVER eat another as long as I lived. Well, then I planted some. And ate some. And I was blown away at how GOOD they are fresh! Oh my goodness, I could live on Brussels sprouts. All kinds of different ways. So keep trying new thinsg. And try growing them too.

We were not given the option of not eating was what put in front of us. We were a HARD-WORKING farm family with 6 kids and raised everything we ate. My mom was an EXCELLENT cook and a pretty creative one at that. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was COOKED spinach, but I ate it. Now?? I eat LOTS of spinach, but usually piles of it, fresh, raw and in a salad! There isn't much I don't like! Too many things to enjoy and life is short! CJ

CJ, I was raised like that, too (you ate what was on your plate - period, and you sat there until it was gone), but my mom was a horrible cook, and I credit her with turning me into a picky eater LOL! I agree, though. The first time I tried fresh, steamed asparagus, I about fell out of my chair! Same with spinach (cooked or raw). This wasn't the pond scum my mom used to pull out of a can.
By the way, with the quinoa, I love it too! It's gluten free, loaded with protein, fiber and vitamins. Just plain good stuff. The Inca empire ran on quinoa. Literally. Like through the mountains at high elevations. I HIGHLY recommend getting Alter Eco brand - it's the real deal from South America and it's fair trade. It's also harvested at the right time. Some other brands have a very distinct "green" flavor to them.

I was raised to eat everything on my plate too. My family was what you would call now a days "underprivileged". Dad worked hard. Mom, who is not and never will be a good cook, did her best. However, there is much that I won't at least try. There are only a few things I will not eat and in this oder: Pea Soup, animal organs (heart/liver), mackeral, and eggs (upset my stomach). I've tried all this stuff after I "grew up". Eggs are a very once in a blue moon thing. The rest of the list are still a no way in Hades unless it is the last things on earth to eat.
