I treat mine with White Willow Bark. I get it in pill form from a health food store. I use 3 pills 3 times a day for 2 weeks, then cut back to 2 pills for 2 weeks, then 1 pill till the pain is gone or managable, then I take 1 pill 2 times a day. I usually forget to take them after a while and then eventually the pain will return. Then I begin all over agian at the higher dose.

It doesn't work on acute pain such as headaches and sore muscles from workouts and such, but is wonderful for chronic pain such as my bulging disc in my neck and my Hubby's twisted ligament. I have found quite a bit of relief from my lower back pain with it as well.

I have a deadly allergy to aspirin, ibuprofin, motrin, celebrex etc. Any NON Steroidal Antiflammatory will kill me. So I use acetametphin and Rx steroids when I can. I would like to try herbal pain relievers, but I am acutely aware that there may be some in the same family as asperin...and I am terrified. Anyone know which herbs to avoid ?

I've read that a tea made with sage leaves helps with joints.

I have had one bout with sciatic pain and was advised to use ice. Ice is
an anti-inflamatory agent. Because the sciatic nerve runs thru the
gluteus maximus (your butt muscle - one of the largest muscles) it takes
quite a while for the cold to get thru it - so, I sat on a bag of ice for 3 hours
and it relieved my sciatica pain quite well - the following day I still had a
twinge of pain, so I sat on ice again for another hour, and that cleared-up the
whole episode. Anyway, that's what helped me and a few others I know.

My sister had been experiencing joint pains, the hands, hips and in her knees,
and she was advised to go on an RA medication - she put that off and decided
to go for allergy testing and found out she is allergic to gluten. Being off gluten
has taken away almost every one of her painful joints.
Allergies can cause inflamation of the joints - check it out.

Not an herb, but my whole family now wears Baltic Amber necklaces and they help our upper bodies to the mid-back area. I ordered beads to make anklets to help our knees. The BA releases acids that are a natural pain-killer when warmed on our skin :) I highly recommend giving it a try at least. Hope you start feeling better ASAP!

Where do you order your beads from? Also, I like topical arnica massaged into the area, I have had a problem with sciatica ever since my first born and I can't wait to get to a chiropractor and MT!

Hi Laurie, white willow bark is the precursor of aspirin, so would probably be best to be very careful. will have to research other herbs. good luck. Phyllis

Boswellia Complex is a good thing to use.. I sell standard process supplements in my office, this one has ginger and tumeric in it, and those help inflammation and Boswellia complex is for supporting healthy joints and circulation. The White Willow Bark is good, but as previously stated it is the precursor to asprin. I give the Boswellia to a lot of older patients with arthritis and joint pains. If you tell me a little more about what is going on, I could probably recommend something for you and send it to you.
