I am more of a lurker than a poster, but you wonderful ladies always give the best advice! My husband has decided to go back to school after farming most of his life. He is going to get an IT degree. We will keep the farm, but the question is, where to go? He can get his schooling almost anywhere but where we live. I need the following: Great schools for my kiddos, not a big city, friendly people, a hospital for me to work in, a rental in the country. Any suggestions? Anyone know of a University with all this? He has done some checking, but always says, I can get an IT degree from almost any University, just decide where you want to go. We do need a change from here.

I went to school for six years in Pullman, WA. It was a nice school. There are a lot of bars if you choose to go but a nice city if you don't. Eight miles from Pullman is Moscow, ID which was also a very nice area. It is rural and has mostly wheat fields around the campuses. I had some really good friends that actually grew up in the area. as far as public colleges go it was a pretty good one for education and nice low key town to live in. A fair number of our friends had hobby farms around the outskirts of town. Look up either Washington State U. Or University of Idaho. Good luck.

My husband has been in the computer field for 20 years most of it spent at Microsoft and now at Apple, he reccommends Eastern Washington State. Says they have the BEST schooling for IT. This is near Cheaney WA which is near Spokane WA.

Eastern Washington University (EWU)would be a good place. The area around Cheney has lots of farmland as it's in the Palouse and it's also in the Channeled Scablands. Spokane is nearby where there are a number of hospitals, including Providence Sacred Heart which is HUGE! (I went to EWU and my ex-husband works at that hospital).
As said before, WSU in Pullman would be a good choice. You are about 90 miles from Spokane and we've got about everything here.

If you are planning to come East you might consider Salisbury NC or Mooresville NC. My DD is in college at Rowan County college and will eventually transfer to a major college there (dang, I con't remember the name of the university, but it begins with a C in Rowan County.) My SIL has a large farm outside Salisbury. There are several hospitals in that area as well. We hope to move there some year soon. You get all 4 seasons there but not a severe winter. Joey

You might get some clarity by trying out "Findyourspot.com". Its a multi part quiz that zeros in on your needs and priorities and offers suggestions of towns. From there, do a college search around those towns that interest you. The girls have many good suggestions. I would just add NOT to consider Arizona. There's good education to be had and it's cheap but everybody and his brother has bad job prospects since the housing crash and everyone is "going back to school" for tech, computers, EMT or Nursing. All of those programs have waiting lists to get into and its graduates invariably have to relocate once again to get hired post grad.

Thank you all so much for your responses. I gave your kind suggestions to my husband and he is going to look at all of them. Jen, we are going to try the "Findyourspot" quiz.
It is scarey to just pick up and move without knowing where to go and we don't want to live near a big city. We've always lived very rural. You are all such a great group of Ladies!

Do know that if you go to Washington State you will be dealing with a lot of rain all year around...it doesn't sound bad until you have to live thur it & have problems with lots of gloomy gray days......I never knew until I lived in the upper part of Oregon near Washington that I am one who gets very blue with too much gray rainy skies....plus side is you are near the Mtn's & the ocean...plus there is alot of different things to do there with others or by yourself.....Washington State is also big in the Green movement which is a plus......Now since I am true to heart a southern girl you would love most of the people in NC..its laid back, slower pace than Washington......I adored the Carolina's except for a few white bigited people I ran into...but now a days you find them everywhere & just try to blow them off & get away from them quickly......The southern foods are to die for, the friendliness is wonderful & the slower pace can come in handly when trying to get an education.....Plus being in a country type area will be easier & cheaper in NC than Washington rent wise....plus cost of living is way cheaper there...but no matter where you go you will find a new adventure, new country to see & visit & maybe some lifelong friends to boot....Michele'
