Hey gals, just wanted to add someone to our prayer lists and thoughts in these next weeks. My dear friend, Julie, called me yesterday afternoon around 5, in tears, on her way home from the University of Kentucky medical center where she, her sister and Mother were told her mother (70) has been diagnosed with acute Lukemia and cannot leave the center until she is in remission. Naturally, that came as quite a shock--her mother protested, said she had to get back to the farm to take care of things, the horses, close up the house, but the Dr. said her spleen was too enlarged and the lymph nodes were already involved, so IF she got any sort of infection, she would die.

They knew "something" was not right, but never would have thought it was this. The prognosis is good--she is a very healthy woman, and 70 is very young by today's medical standards. But, she needs to begin chemo asap in order to fight this and survive.

So, keep Mrs. Linville in your prayers, and her 4 daughters, too. Thanks

Update: My dear friend's mom passed yesterday--after the initial diagnosis, she stopped breathing on her own and was placed in the ICU. She simply never recovered and they pulled the support yesterday after much consultation with doctors and much heartbreak. Obviously, my friend and her four sisters are devastated. As a friend, I'm just shocked at how quickly she passed from a diagnosis of "you're healthy as an ox, we just need to begin chemo--you'll be cancer free in 6 months." Terrible time of year, and there is so little we can do for them..."Hey, I've got nothing to do today but smile..."

Jonni, I'm so sorry for your friend and her mom and its doubly hard being the week before Christmas. But at least they caught it and seem to have a doctor who will treat it aggressively. I'm hoping that her mom has a fighting spirit, because a good attitude helps so much when it comes to dealing with cancer. There are many medical advancements in treating leukemia these days, so they should be able to get her into remission as long a she stays healthy. I realize that I'm sounding terribly optimistic, but our doctors really have a lot to work with these days.

Prayers sent and sending good wishes

Annika, I completely agree, so don't ever apologize for optimism! I think after the shock wears off, then she'll begin to fight, but it's going to be tough. Her daughters are AMAZING people and they will help her, I know.

Thanks all for your good thoughts and prayers. My friend, Julie, is really taking this hard.

I guess just keep them in your prayers, Emily--it's such a devastating thing. I feel so sad, and I know that my friend is concerned about her mom and grieving, but also trying to make sure that her two boys still have some semblance of a Christmas. Very bittersweet. Thank you.

I feel so sorry for the lady who just lost her Mom to cancer. I'm so down in the dumps myself and I can't pull myself out of it. I lost my husband of 41 years to cancer on August 23th. I try to keep busy, but this past week I'm really struggling. My husband would have been 67 on Dec 22, all I do is cry. I can't find happiness in anything now. I'm trying to go on and I attended grief counseling and keeping busy. When does this pain lessen? My grown children live nearby, but they are busy. I'm so lonely , it's the hardest thing I've ever done. i'm praying that this gets easier with time. PS. Merry Christmas to everyone! Alanna
