Hi girls!

I recently had the opportunity to enjoy a holiday "air show" at the National Aviary in Pittsburgh with some of my favorite kids. If you EVER get to Pittsburgh, you really need to visit the Aviary, see the beautiful birds and learn about all the wonderful things they do there. ANYHOW, this year's holiday show featured a little "trip" around the world to see the natural habitats of some of the Aviary's most popular birds, including their newest feature attraction: a beautiful white Snowy Owl, named "Fleury." (A nod to one of our favorite Pittsburgh Penguins, no doubt!) I tell you, the program was fab-u-lous!

In keeping with the holiday theme, each bird was greeted by attendees with these really fun Carols, as the Aviary says, "inspired by our feathered friends." I honestly can't say who enjoyed singing these more - the kids or the adults. Everyone was smiling and belting out the tunes! LOL! Since I know a lot of you are bird lovers, I just had to share! :)

"White Chicken" (to the tune of "White Christmas)

I'm Dreaming of a White Chicken
Just like the ones here in our show
Where their white feathers glisten
And they'll cluck if you listen
but their job is down so there they go

I'm Dreaming of a White Chicken
So try to hold them really tight
They will surely make your days bright
If you don't let your chickens out of sight

They will surely make your days bright
If you don't let your chickens out of sight

"Duck the Halls" (to the tune of "Deck the Halls")

Duck the Halls with two webbed feet!
Fa La La La La La La La La!
Here's our ducks for you to meet!
Fa La La La La La La La Quack!

Don we now our down the feathers
Fa La La La La La La La La!
They keep us warm despite the weather
Fa La La La La La La La Quack!

See the ducklings follow their mother
Fa La La La La La La La La!
They quack and nuzzle with each other
Fa La La La La La La La Quack!

Come and join them by the river (shoreline or lakebed)
Fa La La La La La La La La!
Bring your scarf or you will shiver
Fa La La La La La La La Quack!

Duck the Halls with two webbed feet!
Fa La La La La La La La La!
Here's our ducks for you to meet!
Fa La La La La La La La Quack!

"Ruby the Scarlet Macaw" (to the tune of "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer")

You know Tweety and Mumble and Big Bird and Ming...
Ming, Daffy and Plucky, and Donald and Daisy...
But do you recall..
The most famous birdie of all???

Ruby the Scarlet macaw
Has a very lovely tail
While it is very pretty
In the air it helps her sail

All of the other parrots
Used to squawk and call her names
They never let poor Ruby
Play in any parrot games

Then one lovely holiday
Santa came to sing
Ruby with your wings so bright
Please be in my show tonight

Then all the parrots loved her
And they shouted out with glee
Ruby the Scarlet macaw
You are such a sight to see

Ruby with your wings so bright
Please be in my show tonight

Then all the parrots loved her
and they shouted out with glee
Ruby the Scarlet Macaw
You are such a sight to see!!

And, for the grand finale...

"Snowy Owl" (to the tune of "Jingle Bells," of course!)

Flying through the snow
In the arctic far away
O'er the fields he goes
Screeching all the way (E, E, E!)

They're active in the day
Stealthy while in flight
What fun it is to pounce on prey
Before it becomes night!

Oh!

Snowy owl, snowy owl, screeching all the way
Oh what fun it is to watch Fleury fly all day! Hey!
Snowy owl, snowy owl, screeching all the way
Oh what fun it is to watch our snow owl all day! Hey!

I hope these helped make your holidays a little brighter! :) For more information about our wonderful National Aviary, to see some of the beautiful feathered friends you can meet there, and maybe even to "adopt a bird" this holiday season, you can visit the website at www.Aviary.org :)

Happy Holiday Birdwatching and Caroling!

Hugs,
