making an apron for my granddaughter----thought I remembered to gathr mateial....just sew straight across and then pull one of the threads---this would gather the material---well it isn't working.....did I goof?
did I remember wrong???

you making a gathering? tie one corner tightly...hand baste across the seam allowance and pull the thread slowly, knot it and sew. If you need more information I could take a picture and post it here or...

I have found that hand gathering works best otherwise you have to mess too much with the machine's tension and then you have to put back....easier by hand.
