One_dog_per_acre got me thinking (even though I already was) about our various ways of dealin' with a bad day/stress.

Mine started this afternoon, shortly before quitting time, when a rather mean (that's the best way I can describe him is MEAN) old man came in to put his thumb on me. Long and short of it, I ended up leaving the office nearly in tears, frightened that he may report me for something I did not do.

I put some Derailers on the CD player for the drive home, but that only slightly helped. But, then, out of nowhere, I heard the voice of a dearly departed friend asking me "You're not really gonna let that ******* scare you, are you darlin'?" clear as day, as if he was in the truck with me.

He was a musician and, at a benefit concert to help out his daughter, I bought one of the CDs they'd created after his death. I grabbed it out of my console, stuck it in the player and suddenly decided, I'm going to make a red and black apron... red GINGHAM and black!! and I am going to KEEP listening to Chadd Thomas and the Crazy Kings, and I'm going to hack up those two pie pumpkins when I get home, roast them AND their seeds, and dance around the kitchen and if the neighbors see me through the blinds and think I'm loca, well that's THEIR problem!

Anyone else have interesting ways of dealing with a bad day??

Miranda, I've had a dilly of a day too. I had to go to a bunch of doctor appointments this morning, the first in a near by city about an hour away, and wouldn't you know it, every slowpoke in the state got in front of us. I was late to 3 out of 4 appointments! I'm frazzled! So I came home whipped up a pot of chili, put on the Foo Fighters and sang very loud while I did some much needed housework. I've snacked on dark chocolate and laid out some crafting projects for the week, pulled out the Christmas cards and making our list of those to send cards to.

I'm still whooped but getting into the Thanksgiving groove, so it's all good at least for now.

I am one of those people with an odd sense of humor, so I usually get through rough days by being silly and snarky

Happy Thanksgiving! Hugz!

I had to laugh about hacking up the pumpkins! I usually just have a beer and listen to my favorite music.

I bake. Like a mad woman! It's crazy. Good music and a glass (or two...or three) of wine doesn't hurt either. :)

A good workout (weight training, walking, or tai chi) does wonders for me; most of the time. Or I get busy on a craft project or bury myself in genealogy.

Lately I have been running my stress into the ground but today I came up lame with shin splints (wouldn't you just know it!! Sheesh) So it looks like mostly weights and light impact training for me from here on out. That and house work. My house might be spotless soon!!

Sometimes I sling rocks in the rock garden, or move a woodpile to another spot (slinging logs). Sometimes I just go to sleep. I can fall asleep at the drop of a hat. Can't be stressed when I'm asleep.

Isn't it funny that we all want to do heavy labor when we have a bad day? Most men its a beer & sitting in front of the TV..lol....I do like Judith, stack, move wood, clean out coops, haul out trash anything to keep my mind busy while I steam.....then when I am calmer I usually now sit at the picnic table & talk to the chickens....lol...nice thing is they don't care that I had a bad day & they don't mind me telling them...plus I don't have to listen to unwanted advice at that moment....Plus they seem to know when to stay out of my way while I am throwing things like hay ect then come to me when its done to let me know they are ready to listen...perfect!....Michele'

Back in the day I'd do something physical; sprint, swing bales..... but now I go nuts cleaning house, go walking at night, hit my knees in prayer, listen to soothing music, watch a movie (if I'm concentrating on someone else's life mine can't bother me), rant to my farmgirl sisters..... :D

Excuse the mess & the noise, my children are making happy memories

Just stressed and feeling blue, a glass of iced tea and critter watching. I had my DH and son build me a bench and put it under a shade tree where I can sit and watch all of my fram critters. If I am angry, a glass or two of wine, some serious cussing and pillow throwing, of course after bolting a couple of glasses of wine, things just seem better and the rest of the bottle makes me sleep really well that night. When the kids were still at home, serious house-cleaning took place, with loud music did the trick.

When you free your mind your heart can fly. Farmgirl # 714,

WOW!! I figured one or two responses, but this is great! Julie, I hacked up thw two pumpkins, de-seeded, and roasted. One was mealy (and it was the pretty one) but the other one came out gorgeous. When I get home from work, Old Man says he'll have the dishes done so I can make a pie or two!

I didn't get any sewing done like I wanted to and I pretty much destroyed dinner, but I am doing better now. When I was too tired to be pissed off any more, laid on the couch with Old Man and watched Sons of Anarchy.

If I lived in a more rural setting, had farm animals and a fireplace, I'd probably go sling wood & talk to the critters too! I did have a nice long conversation with Pepper Jean. She's a very good listener and knows when to respond and when not to LOL!!

I've always believed friends/family that have passed on do still watch over us & offer advice when needed-sometimes thru dreams, and thru speaking to us like you experienced. Light a candle of thanks for him and follow his advice!

Very true, Knit! I hadn't heard Chadd's voice in a while... couple of months, and he passed in July. But, there it was, clear as a bell! It shocked me at first, then I was calm. Sort of. Feisty, but calm.

PS I noticed "fiddle sawin'" in your tagline... YEEHAW! Howdy, fellow four stringer! Funny I mentioned Chadd, one of my best memories was when he tried to help get me back into the music biz and had me come record with him one night for some crazy fellow I only know as The Serb. We sat and joked and giggled (and the serb was totally clueless) like a couple of children. By the end of the night I was exhausted... I'd worked all that day, I had to go home and finish icing a cake for a coworker, and I had to get up early the next morning. I couldn't get through to the Serb that he was working me too hard for something so miniscule as background music on this piece, so I pulled Chadd aside and told him. I was afraid he'd be upset, but instead, told the Serb that I couldn't do any more. He did it with such charm, it all ended up well, and Chadd and I became closer. I was dating his bass player at the time, who is still a good friend, through everything. We never truly flirted, but Chadd and I had a soft spot in our hearts for one another.

Come to think of it, the Serb had a similar, though slightly more pleasant and friendly, attitude to the guy yesterday. OH LORD I JUST HAD AN EPIPHANY! Ain't it funny how things work out!?

I just love this forum
