National Tie One On Day is coming up this next week, on Wednesday November 23rd.

I just finished the apron I plan to wrap my bread in. My gift will go to my neighbor who is the mother of a disabled child, loves horses and is an artist. Thought she might like this "many pockets" apron with horse print and lots of pockets for artist supplies . . or whatever. I will bake some Honey Oatmeal bread later so that it's fresh.

I know our Farmgirls Southwest Henhouse Chapter 'Chick" members are making this a project in our respective communities.

Any other farmgirls planning on participating??

Should be fun . . and rewarding!

Thanks girls! I realized that I should have taken the pic with the other corner of the pocket on top as that is where I tried to have horses without parts and pieces cut off. Oh well.

Connie Jo,
If you google "National Tie One On Day" it should bring up some info. But basically, it is wrapping a loaf of bread in an apron and taking it to someone who is need of encouragement, support, care . . . It is always the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and it's just a way to "give back". Neither the bread or the apron need to be made by you . . . it's extra nice if they are, but not necessary. I can do both so I will be.

I have chosen to gift my neighbor friend because I know how stressful her life is how much encouragement she needs.

Hope that helps . . . and if you need more info let me know.

And . . YAY! Another "CJ"!

I luv the cutie 'turkey hand print', like we use to make in in grade school.....

I plan to tuck in cute little 'love notes' in the pockets,,, for my daughter & 2 grandbabies.

CJ & Grace - those are fabulous aprons. I had not heard of this before either. What a wonderful thing to do - so simple, yet so meaningful. Hmmmmm.... I know someone who could use it. Thanks for the great idea. Grace - LOVE the turkey hand fabric - too cute.

I found this Thanksgiving Blessing several years ago - and when I give food or tea or whatever this time of year, I attach this blessing:

Thanksgiving Blessing

Wishing you walls for the wind
Roof for the rain
And tea beside the fire.

Laughter to cheer you
Those you love near you
And all that your heart may desire.

Lorraine,,
what a sweet poem, thanx for sharing it with us....
You have given me an idea for an elderly lady near by.... I think I will whip up a little apron with 2 pockets, one to insert several tea bags & your little poem and in the other pocket, stevia packets & a silver spoon.

Gotta love the power of the farmgirl sisterhood! :>)

CeeJay, I hear ya,,, my farmgirl eyeballs are getting blurry, with all this sewing...but I wouldn't have it any other way!

Grace - that's a great idea.

I bought an apron but am making some pumpkin bread for one of my farmgirl sisters. She'll love it - she's going through a divorce and having a tough time.

Thanks again CJ for posting this - I'd never heard of this before. Such a great idea... Happy NTOO Day to you all..

Thanks CJ for explaining it all to me! Since I work maybe I will make one when I get home from work tomorrow. I bought a "new" old sewing machine in September but still haven't make anything with it yet. I tried to sew pockets on a copote I had made a few months before, but it was too bulky.

This is my new machine

I hope this works...I have never posted a picture before. It is a 1949 Singer Feather Weight. It has been repainted in car paint a beautiful purple color.

I am not quite sure who I will give the apron and bread to but I think I will do it!

Everyone, have a blessed evening!

Cute machine. My daughter would love that!
I'm sure you'll think of someone you can encourage with your gift. A neighbor?

Judy,
I gifted my "Tie One On" gift this morning. I will actually be tying an apron on myself tomorrow . . .I'll start with my pumpkin pies. My hubby is doing a lot of the cooking but we're not doing turkey and it'll only be him, our son and me.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

Hi All!

Something funny happened today with "Tie One On". One of the big bosses at work has a board outside her office and everyday she writes what day it is. Well, today she had "Tie One On Day"! So before I left I told her what it REALLY meant. She thought it meant to drink too much. Of course, she wanted to know how I knew what it really meant, so I told her about you all and Mary Jane's Farm. (And, how I had told my daughter about Mary Jane's Farm, too, and how she had said, "Mom, it sound like a grow op!") LOL

I was going to sew an apron last night and make some bread in my bread machine, but when I got home after work I was exhausted. I barely had energy to make dinner. But, I did dig in my linen closet and found and old beautiful table cloth with lovely cross stitching on it. It has a stain on one side, so I think I am going to use it to make the apron! Too fun! I can't wait! I will sew it tomorrow while dinner is cooking. It will be a little late, but that is OK, I think! I am going to give it to a friend at work who gave me tickets to go to the play where she is the stage manager. It is called "Mr. Darcy Dreamboat". My son and I went last Saturday night and had a very good time. I thought the apron and bread would be an excellent thank you gift.

I will try to post a picture!

You girls have an blessed Thanksgiving! I am glad you like my purple sewing machine...

Love to you all!

Connie Jo,
That is funny! I'm sure there are many others who think the same thing.
I'm sure your friend will be delighted with your gift no matter when! So, enjoy making that. I love repurposing those kinds of things.
