I was wondering just how well these work and how much they really help out so you don't have an electric bill. I think I would like to get one but need to read more about it, but thought it might be helpful if some one had one and could give me some tips...

Don't buy a tie in from China. I think we spent $6-800, and figured it would be paid off in 10 years.

There is no really huge savings, because it is an investment, and because in WA state, the power company doesn't pay you for extra power you put back into the grid. DH is kind of obsessed with alternative energy. It's better than dumping $ in the boat or toys :)

Watch you tube, see if you have restrictions for having one in your yard.

He has magnets for OVERUNITY check it out.

My husband says go to missouri Wind and Solar, they are the best and have videos.

He says that you can get one that will take care of your home for $1500, and you don't need an electrician.

I have both a solar array and a wind turbine. We are off grid so these are our only forms of power. The turbine has been up and fuctioning for a little over a week and so far we are not impressed. The solar system is much more reliable and efficient and we do NOT live in an area that would be considered good for solar. So don't let that keep you from looking into it. It is a 500 watt turbine from Missouri wind and solar and they have not really been much help when we called them with issues with the product. I can tell you one of the best things you can do is pare down the amount of electric you use before looking into sizing a system. It can be very expensive to get into alternative energy if you can't live without things like hair dryers, bread machines, and video games. We did all the installation ourselves and that did keep some of the cost down. We love living off grid, and wouldn't do it any other way. Do your homework and I am sure you can find something to suit your needs.

Jane,
We have already pared down. We don't have tv and I am not sure what are actual usage is my DH keeps track of that but we only pay right now about $80 a month for electricity. The only thing we have not been able to do without is our computers. How much are you able to use them daily?

Beverely, I am able to use my computer when ever I want. Computers actually do not use much power. Do you want a grid tied system or off grid system? If you choose grid tied it won't matter because the grid power will compensate for any days your production is down. Our system is relatively small. We choose to give up the refrigerator, I do laundry with a hand washer, hang dry, and most of my appliances are hand crank. But I run a small freezer, computer, water pump, our wood boiler ciruculator pumps, lights, and on good production days a sweeper with the system. You just learn what days you can run what and what days you conserve. It is a wonderful feeling not getting any utility bills . It takes a few adjustments but the pay off is worth it.

Try www.southwestwind.com , they all all over the US, and thats who I bought mine from, they run my entire house, and extra frezers without a problem, when i was researching, this company was the best hands down, and they are willing to listen and answer all the questions you could possibly have, and if I have a problem, I can get someone out here in 24 hrs or less...
