Ok, according to the projected weather report,,,uugghh! we are suppose to get another really cold long Winter....again !
So I don't know about you farmgirls on the NE side of the State... but I am stocking up in fabric to sew lots & lots of yoyoyoyoyoyossssss....

I have been trying to work on yo yos so I can start my quilt this winter. :)
Annie,
Have you ever used a yoyo maker? Clover puts some out. I like them because they are quick and easy for me.

The nice thing about having a jar(or several) full is you always have some on hand for a quick something...
1. deco the front of a pillow
2. attach to gift tags
3. string together like garland
4. glue on to clips for hairclips
5. attach onto plain inexpensive gloves/mittens
6.trim the hem or top of curtains
7.deco a lamp shade
8. trim on aprons
9. wine bag totes
10. deco the collar of a denim jacket or blouce or tank top
11.attach elastic and make a cute 'ring'
you get the idea
you can go to the Clover web site and find patterns...and there is a 'YoYo Idea-design' book not to mention on occassion you can find pamphlets at the fabric store(next to Clover Templetes) with ideas.

I do have the yoyo makers from clover but I am using the heart shape not the round. I will double check the round one soon. Thanks for your advice. |

Annie,
I just spotted the uber large round yoyo maker at Joanns Fabric store... so it looks like they have 3 sizes now.
I have the med. heart and the med flower one... the flower one is a bit tricky at first....but it does come out cute as does the heart shape one... I just keep forgetting to use it! duh!

i don't do a lot of yo-yos, but hexagons, I love doing quilts with hexagons. I have done a lap quilt for my DD that looks like a teddy bear, a wall hanging, and now am working on a queen size quilt (when i get done with xmas presents).

Tammy, I tried the hexagons... i used the little pre-cut hexagon papers... do you or do you freehand?

I remember GGGma making hexagons w/little bits of paper inside. She made a bedspread also. Does Clover make a hexagon template? Seems I saw one at Hobby Lobby. I have lots of scraps from making the heart yoyo's. Would like to make something with little triangles, but have never quilted. Something new to try. Yesterday, I saw several yoyo projects in the McCalls catalog.

Have some still packed in the basement from moving a few years back.
it is like treasure hunting when I go down there and find my fabrics I had forgotten about .
started using calicos as backings for my finished quilt tops .
better that having to go and buy backing fabric for them, hugs sheila

Ok yoyo freaks! I have seen several wreaths with yoyo's on them on Etsy... Lots of holiday themes with a lightweight figure of a reindeer or tree.

Grace, I use freezer paper and cut my own hexagon templates. just draw out a row of hexagons on the non-shiny side of freezer paper leaving a small space between them. Then accordian fold the paper with the row of hexagons on top. Staple the center of each stack of hexagons, cut them out and remove the staple. Don't make too thick of an accordian stack, though, or it won't cut accurately. Then i just iron the shiny side to the back of the fabric and cut out the hexagons from the fabric leaving 1/4 inch seam allowance all the way around each one. Baste down the seam allowance and you have a finished looking hexagon to attach to others using a fine whip stitch. i only remove the paper after each hexagon is completely surrounded. (this is English paper piecing). The freezer paper hexagons can be reused many times before they won't stick anymore when ironed.
