I'm really, really considering it. I've wanted to participate for the past couple of years and somehow time always got away from me. This year I have a pretty solid idea, though it's not as sketched out as I'd like, so it might be the time to finally jump in. I'm glad to hear you had a really positive experience, Kristina!

So without signing up for it, what exactly is it? I had two kids in a co-op class who did this a couple years ago and seemed to have fun with it but I never really understood what it was. I know you're supposed to write a novel in a month...but why is it different than doing it on your own time? Is it having people to support you, and having a deadline? I went to the site but it seems as though you can't get information about it unless you create an account. Fill me in! :)

You create an account, you can meet up at local bookstores to write along with other members, you log your words daily, and you have until the last day of the month. You can chat with other writers, get tips etc. They often offer help with brain storming and yes it's about writing 50,000 words or more in one month. The deadline is what helps me. I have very little time, and I tend to put it off unless I have my entire house in order (never happens with 7 in the house non-stop).

Oh, ok! That sounds like fun! I never really understood what it was about. When you say novel, does it have to be fiction, or is the point just to have you write 50K words? I have two books I'm supposed to be working on. One could be fictionalized, and the other is strictly non-fiction. :)

It can be any genre. I am behind on account of being sick. I got my word count up to the 16,000 area, but have a long way to go yet. This year was much easier than the first, and I'm glad I did do it. It forces my mind to be creative in a very short time, which helps me prepare for a novel some day very soon.
