Neat idea! I had never heard of a dotee doll until now. Just googled them, and they look cute! I almost want to volunteer to host, but I don't sew (although I think I could hand sew one just fine) and i'm not really sure what is all involved in hosting, or how to for that matter!

Joey, The links in the first post show ideas of what and how. I can see how you thought the links were my blog.quote: Originally posted by Joey

I don't think you necessarily have to know how to machine sew to make a dottee doll. I looked at them on Google images search and some are hand sewn out of felt, that's what I'm thinking I would do. I'm new, so not real sure what all is involved in hosting a swap like this, does anyone know?

Here's what I do. Copy and paste off Beth Jones. Ha Ha. No, but that's a good place to start. Read the other swap posts and see what you like about them. Take rules from ones you like. Set a time limit for sign ups, set a mailing deadline, and resond to posts there, letting ladies know that they have been counted.
You'll get asked questions about sizes, more thatn anything here, I suspect. I think that a swap hostess is responsible for trying to get non-senders to step up. In the end, it is usually up to the hostess to ,"angel," or make the wrong right somehow.
On fancy swap sites high dollar swaps are usually not angeled by the hostess. I am hosting a whimsy jar swap, which is a lot for postage alone. The last time I did it, I sent the person that got left out a package of goodies, and sent her name out to others that wanted to do the same. In the end she didn't get a completed whimsey jar, but she got a bunch of nice farmgirl gifts to make up for her loss.
I would host, but I don't want to be responsible for angeling any dolls. I am doing swap-bot too. I have to do 5 swaps over there before I can host.

If no one else wants to host, I will try my hand at it. The send out date would have to be sometime early December though. I'm still in the process of moving and I have a couple of mid terms to study for. I'd want to give myself enough time to make several in case things didn't go through with any of the partners. Just let me know if someone else is planning on hosting, or if I should. :)

Does anyone know if a felt face is required to be considered a dotee doll? Felt is the only thing I don't have.

I don't think the face would have to be felt, seems like these little dolls could be made pretty much out of anything you can think of. I can give hosting a swap a try, I have time and am willing to make more than one! Do I post it in this same thread or start another thread to announce the swap?

I think people hang them up like a clothesline or garland. Someone made me a couple small ones with pins to wear. I sure would like to be able to partcipate now.

I've started a new thread for a Dotee Doll Nov Swap. Please sign up in that thread if you'd like to participate. It should be a fairly easy swap, just use whatever scraps you have on hand to make the doll. I'm really looking forward to this swap! thanks!

Yesterday, I went all over-achiever, and made 1.5 Dotee Dolls. One is Inuit, one looks like Mary Jane, but might end up a country singer. Her tiny hat did not want to grow up to be steampunk anyway.
