| I have my grandma's Singer Sewing Machine from the 1940's era. I want to start using it but need some parts (I've located the instruction manual online so I'm set there). Is there anyone online that sells parts or how do you find them? |

I know it's a Singer sewing machine no. 15, I found the instruction manual online. Does that help? I can get you the serial # too if you need further clarification.

It's definitely a treadle. I'll post a pic along with a pic of the pieces that came with it (needles, etc.). Have to run out for a bit but will post the pics once I get back. Thanks!

| The manual says 15-88 & 15-89. I'm trying to figure out which. At the moment I'm guessing 88 since it's got the foot treadle. Supposedly the 15-89 only had a hand crank. Not sure on the accuracy of the info though. |

I spoke to singer yesterday and they said that the the 15-30 was most likely a hand crank made from 1895-1933. The 15-88 was only made from 1933-1941. The 15-91 was made from 1933-1956....but some features of that machine are on different places.
I am most definite you have a 15-96 as I was told that the date of manufacture of your machine is March 9 1949.
Also, according to a key i use to identify old singers, the placement of the thread tension assembly and the bobbin winder bottom disc makes your machine the 15-96. (Had your machine been a hand crank, it would of been a 15-98) Here's the link to the 'key': http://www.sandman-collectibles.com/id-singer-machines.htm
The links I gave you for parts are great. I'd email them and give them your model #..15-96 and ask what parts (if you even need any) they have. Some parts of the 15 models are compatible with eachother.
I am confused though as to why you have that manual...there's a possibility that it could of been a different model converted at some point. I myself had a machine for sale with the manual it came with. Someone had emailed me that my machine was not the model I had listed...and he sent me documentation of it as proof. So whomever had the machine before me had the wrong manual.

Dont use the ISMACS International 's website. The reason I called Singer yesterday was because the serial # you gave me listed a model that I knew there was no possibility that it could of been...so they have wrong info.

Thanks so much Connie, I really appreciate it! I actually am thinking I really can do this:) I think the only thing I know for sure I need is a foot control cord. the one I have is just an old leather shoelace I believe.

Lisa I know you can do it. 2 years ago I knew nothing about sewing machines. I'll help you anyway I can. Funny, I'm going to my sisters house today to work on her sewing machine. I dont know everything, but enough to get an old singer working again. I have many resources as well to point you in the right direction if need be. I have 3 working treadles here and 6 other working machines. Then i have 4 for sale. LOL i think i'm a little obsessed.
Here's a pic of a singer 15-91 my mother in law gave me. I was shocked when i got it, it was SO rusted solid. But after a month or 2...it now runs beautiful! I did all the work myself. See the pic....
