I am so excited to hear that there will for sure be a calendar!! Yay!!! I love the idea of fun farmgirl dates on it!! I have one to post for sure... Mona (my beloved Jersey cow for those of you who don't know) is due to calve next spring on May 25th.
Thanks for all you do MaryJane....and heck, I wouldn't be surprized at all by a 4am post on here...except that YOU probably get up that early..I would STILL be up from the night before! haha

A calender sounds great but what about like a planner. It could have gardening tips for the month. It could also have recipes for the month. Pages for writing in things like, grocerie list, phone numbers, email addresses, etc, etc. Just an idea! And of course it could be filled with all kinds of MJ's photos.

I've been trying to get all of "my" upcoming "significant dates" in my mind for next year... This is SO fun!

Mid-to-late February - lambing at Libbie's farm!
First week in March - Libbie's farm gets new chicks this year!
Mid-March - The shearers come through the valley and Libbie's Suffolk and Rambolais get a haircut(brrrr.....)
March through May - spring winds ravage Libbie's farm and pasture every single afternoon.
First week-ish in May - the Central Utah irrigation canals fill for the first water turn on my pasture.
June 15-18 - Elsinore, Utah, Heritage Days
June 25 - Libbie's boy, William's, fourth birthday
August 2 - Libbie's boy, Arthur's, first birthday
Mid-October - the Central Utah irrigation canals empty on normal water years.
Late October - Lambs go to the auction or to the freezer.

That's all I have so far....

XOXO, Libbie

Yo, Farmgirl Geniuses, keep it up. Moon phases are good. Home phrases are good. All signifigant dates/events will be considered but no promises that they'll be published. Don't be afraid to be silly, quirky or obscure.

I've put together some images and i think i have the months in order... I've tried to juxipose antique imagery and nouveau farmgirl. I'm not sure there's enough food in it, but there's more than enough sass. But i need interesting/fun dates that are personal to you (although birthdays would probaby get too overwhelming), so if you have suggestions, i'd love to hear them.

We seem to have alot of pregnant farmgirls. Maybe you could add their expected due dates. That would be something special.

Cool. The anniversay is way neato, Susan, i have the "no foolin'" right below April Fools.

I don't know if i can get the due dates squared up on the pregnancy days, but thanks for the suggestion.

It's almost all together, i'm just plugging in dates and moon phases. I'd like to have it done by Monday. So if you have something to contribute i'd love to hear from you over the weekend. Sorry it's such short notice, other projects had my ear. But if you write now, i'm listenin'

Hey, Erik! Long time, no talk!

Here's my suggestion, (if it hasn't already been considered):

Christian, Jewish and Pagan holiday observances, as well as Canadian and US holidays, and international standout holidays, if you can find a source and have room.

Cheerio!
Clare

P.S. I must add that your tribute to your Mom in the last magazine issue was just perfect!

Hey, Clare. Yeah, long time. My life has conspired to have me neglect many friends. Well, not conspired, i chose to hermit up a bit. So hello from deep in my hermit cave.

We're including holidays. It's always a bit of a challenge to know what to include. In fact, that's what's making this calender a bit difficult: what to include and what to leave out. Religeous holidays are wonderful but i hope nobody gets bent out of shape if i miss a few. I picked three signifigant days from the U.S.'s immediate neighbors from the north and south and we made up a few special farmgirl themed days like "Wear Your Biggest Earrings Day" or "Take a Kid Fishing Weekend".

It's a little dry so far for personal dates (except Libby, Susan and Brenda). I hope i haven't squashed everybody's enthusiasm by shying away from b-days and due-dates...

I'm probably not giving you gals enough time to gather up info but if you want to contribute what you think would make a special farmgirl themed day please post 'em. Here's a few more we came up with: "Clean Your Barn Weekend" "Compliment Your Mirror Week" "Say Something Nice To Your Chickens Week" "Moo Like a Cow Day" "Hog Hollerin' Day" "Wear Cowboy Boots Day" and of course, variations on Apron days, "Build a Birdhouse Weekend", "Eat Anything You Want Day", "Farmgirl Party Weekend", etc. As well as seasonal and planting stuff. But i know i'm missing all kinds of good stuff and so if you have suggestions please post.

p.s. Clare, love the Niebuhr quote.

Erik,
Very familiar here with 'hermiting up'. Glad you've surfaced for a bit!

Sounds like you've got the creative juices flowing on the calendar days. It will be fun to see it in print, and your photos, too!

Take care.

Such cute cute ideas!!!
my mind isn't working well enough today to think of any cute holidays. I guess Mona the cow's due date (at least I HAVE one THIS year!!) on May 25th is the only one I have.
I could stand a few hermiting up days lately!! Thanks for all your work on this Erik!!

OK, Eric, if you want something a little more personal than "Richland County Fair" you could mark the 2nd Wednesday in August as the "Blue ribbon expected for Ladies' Pie Auction at Richland County Fair"!

How about the birthday of the founder of 4-H? A.B. Graham, and his birthday is ??/??/1868 - there is a picture of him at his 90th birthday party at http://www.nae4ha.org/hof/ohio.pdf and I found this 1958 - “A.B. Graham Day” was held at WRFD radio on his 90th birthday at www.ohio4h.org/centennial/Files/AB%2520Graham.ppt" target="_blank">http://72.14.209.104/search?q=cache:nWClKk4LtVkJ:www.ohio4h.org/centennial/Files/AB%2520Graham.ppt 1958 a. b. graham day wrfd&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=1

I think every farm kid in Ohio must know A.B. Graham.

The 4-H organization's anniversary is January 15, 1902.

Two other big days for farming here are May 15 for last frost date and October 15 for first frost date... Maybe you could post the dates for other zones as well?

There is a calendar of events on the American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture web site at http://www.ageducate.org/news/calendar.html that you might find interesting...It even lists National candied orange peel day.... and the international Eat an Apple day..Rabbit week in August, and clean your refrigerator day on November 15....
