don't you just love re-using wood?...my large 6ft by 10 ft coop is done with re-cycled wood everyone in the neighborhood gave me plus old wooden rain gutters ect I found in the shop attic...right now I tore out the ceiling to the front porch cause it was coming apart & its nearly 100 yrs old & 90% can be re-used so when I add on to the coop (hopefully soon) I will use it for the walls....Since it may have lead paint in it I will cover the inside areas with tarps to keep the chickens from pecking at it but its so nice to be able to do this instead of getting out the checkbook for new stuff....plus if you are like me you end up painting it ect to make it look old anyway....this way that part is already done for you.....bet that bridge is great looking....Michele'
this is the only pic I could get that turned out but you can see the old wood I used from the porch ceiling...I turned the wood so the painted side was outside so the chickens couldn't get to it but I also once done tarped all the walls inside to keep the mite population down & to make it easier to clean......Michele'
Talk about recycled wood...the people who built my house used the hand hewn beams from the original house that stood there. The original door is on the house (needs to be replaced. too rotten). It had the original glass in it, but a gust of wind from the back door blew the front door shut and shattered the glass. DH wanted to vomit. Upset does not describe what he felt well enough, either. Can't seem to find anyone with an old pic. of the house with the door in it. Oh well!
