Could I please ask for prayers for my home state of Vermont and all those devastated by Hurricane Irene?

There are still 11 towns in Vermont that are totally isolated from the outside with every road in and out of town totally gone. There is massive destruction all over the state. The National Guard is dropping food, water and medical supplies by helecopter as best they can, and I understand more helecopters are on their way from the mid-West.

My family is fine, but so many of my old friends and neighbors are not.

Thank you all!

I am praying for them to all be safe and for roads, utilities and amenities to be restored to everyone in beautiful Vermont as soon as can be!

I was going to start a post regarding this topic, so when you did, I had to say that it is horrible what has happened to your beautiful state and its people, so YES, they are all in my prayers...

Thank you all -

I reached my Mom on the cell phone yesterday and she said that several of the stranded towns have been reached now by people on ATV's and such. There are still several towns cut off from the outside world. So many homes and roads have been destroyed that I think it will be years before everything gets back to near normal.

I told her my farmgirl friends were all sending prayers, and she was so thankful to all of you.

Praying for all the people in Vermont. The damage there is heartbreaking to see, not the least losing those beautiful old bridges. Hope things are back to normal soon for your mom. My son lives in Smithfield, Va, just outside Newport News. He is very fortunate that he had no flooding because his house is on the Pagan. The house is on a hill so that saved it. He has tons of branches to pick up, but no major damage. Mother Nature sure can wreck havoc.

I am saddened to see the destruction too. The loss of landmarks and old structures will change the area forever. However, 15 mos out from our flood the recovery is amazing. People are so resilient and it can bring out the best in a community. I am praying they find the strength, resilience, and vision of the future to carry them through this.
