Apparently, I can grow Zinias!

On the corner of 8th and 14th!

Here's another Zinnia patch by my ancient pre-1930's garage!

I can not believe how many monarchs visit during the day!

Now that they are winding down do I leave the flowers on the stems and let the flowers dry out to harvest the seeds for next year or can I clip the heads now?

clip the dying flower heads off and place in brown paper bags, to finish drying, then collect seeds and store till next year

That's the way I harvest the seeds also, Tina! I plant them every year..And, this year I discovered how much the butterflies and hummingbirds love them too. We've lived on Zinnia Ave. for 30 years.

Zinnias are my very favorite flower and so easy to grow. I always save seeds. I just had my granddaughter clip off the heads of all the flowers I had inside in vases. And I will dead head the others outside too. I already have 2 big plastic coffee cans full of flower heads. I just leave them on the heads til I get ready to plant in the spring.

Melody, your flowers look good still. Mine are drying up. No rain here in weeks and it's looking like it too.

I have struggled all summer long with stuff NOT GROWING except THESE Zinnia's. And, come to find out I learned a little local history about my little corner of the world... Apparently, years and years ago the city used to host an annual ZINNIA FESTIVAL and now I know why....must be very favorable conditions here that make these flowers go into nuclear growing mode! This is the first year I planted them but I will definitely continue to plant them again and again. They are pretty aren't they?

Melody, I love Zinnia's and your's are absolutely beautiful. I never planted my seeds this year. We don't have much sun, and we have a small garden by the road (Sunny) - next year there will be Zinnia's planted there with my tomatoe's, Dahlia's and roses - a girls gotta do what a girl's gotta do, and flowers by the roadside will be it :)
