Without going into specifics, or releasing any "secret" info, how happy are you with your commission rates for your business? I'm posing this to the "party" company people, whether it's food, jewelry, products, etc. The company I work with is changing their policies, and I'm really disheartened by the changes. So much so, I'm wondering whether I can even honestly recommend it to people. (I'll be losing money if I keep doing it once gas and toner are figured in!)

Funny you should post this topic. I was approached not too long ago from a company that dealt specifically in Michigan Made Products; had a beautiful professional looking website and after sending in "snaps" of my made in Michigan products said they would love to have me list on their website at a price of $50.00 start up cost with a 40% commission fee on everything that was sold. After doing a little research (initially I felt it was too steep to consider!) when they called me to ask why I hadn't followed through I told them I felt 40% was just to high. She suggested I raise the price of my items. I then told her that I wouldn't do that just to cover her commission fee.
I would LOVE to be able to sell on a reputable and trustworthy website that can get out there and promote my product but is there anything out there that charges less in commission? I just can't seem to find anyone...

I am an independent rep for NYR Organic, and I love it! Commission is 25% right off the top, and there are bonuses available after you sell a certain amount, which increases with the amount you sell every month. If you love organic and love to share it, we are a VERY reputable company, and tops in the direct selling market. Here is my website if you are at all interested.

For over 18 years I worked with a direct selling company where I got 50% commission on the sales of the products. I reached the level of Senior Director with a sales force of 200 consultants. But it was frustrating. 50% commissions sounds good,but it is not what you make. It is what you get to keep. With a direct sales party plan my income was based on booking and having parties. Plus we purchased the hostess gifts and other incentives. Then there was the constant re-investing and buying inventory. And, companies have a way of updating their products, therefore you needed to resell your inventory, sometimes at a bigger discount to the customer and then re-investing in the new products...I didn't know there was another way. I knew I didn't want to be in a MLM company. I took a look at a few of them and noted that because of their marketing plan their prices tend to be higher than the competition and there is generally a large start-up cost. Then there is the potential that at the end of the month in order to earn more commissions, to invest in more product in order to have a higher monthly volume of sales. Sometimes members find themselves in trouble with excess inventory and high balances on their credit cards.....So, I was wary when a friend called me and introduced me to the eco-friendly product company that I now have been with for over 6 years. I don't keep inventory or resell products. I just help customers become familiar with and set up a shopping account so that they can shop directly for what they need. Every month I get 20% commission on the purchases of my personal customers. Most of my customers shop every month. My income is consistent. There are also other commissions. I was hesitant to take a look, but my friend said, "Take a look, you can always say no if it is not what you want, but at least you will know what you are saying no to." Well, the company I currently work for offers less than 25% commission, and are now going to a tiered discount rate in October-I'm just trying to decide if this is really worth it for me anymore.

That is frustrating! Especially after you work the business for awhile. When you get a chance, contact me and we can visit. I can call you back. (I have unlimited long distance - yea!) I just made grape jam-jelly & juice out of about 30 pounds of our grapes. We took over to a single mom another 27 pounds or so and I have lots that the wasps and the birds are enjoying. I'm not thrilled about the wasps, but they do eat insects so we pick early in the morning and stay out of their way. I'm off topic aren't I. :)
