My husband and I have been buying these huge 6lb cans of peaches and bush's baked beans just because of the cost factor. I paid under 4 dollars for a six pound can of peaches! He normally likes those expensive peaches found in the glass jars in the refrigerator section of the store. I pay about 4 dollars for one small jar.

My question is once I open this huge can can I re-can them into smaller jars to make them last? The same with the baked beans? Should I use the pressure cooker method or will the water bath work just fine?

Anyone have any experience with this?

I think you would save $ and have very high quality peaches if you canned fresh ones when the price is good.
I just bought peaches at Walmart for $.76 a lb.

so much cheaper to buy fresh peaches and can yourself, also much healthier, and as far as baked beans, the same goes for them...I would never try to re-can, canned store bought food, it would probaly get soft and taste nasty...

Freezin works better, but I have recanned fruit when I was in a pinch and had to. Use the recanned for pies and cobblers or over or in ice cream. It does lose flavor and gets soft so it's not best for plain eatin.

I will say, in the middle of winter, when fruit at the store is expensive and hard to come by, it seems to taste just fine to me!

Thank you all for your thoughts...maybe I will try to freeze and use the peaches to make smoothies or something later on.
