Deborah,
I am not a knitter, crocheter, or a weaver....I just want to say that I admire you for doing this project and I hope that it is successful. This is such a kind thing to do, and a very practical way to help.

A local yarn shop I frequent for my felting projects has a "charity" tree up year round....the idea is to make hats, scarves, mittens--anything with yarn that can be used to keep someone warm. The items are then donated to the local food pantry after Halloween for holiday distribution.

I will try to do a scarf and a hat. When I get them done, I'll let you know.
I crochet hats for the homeless where I live. Every year I bring them, the people are all so excited.
Does my heart good too.
