I just bought some new burlap, for some pillows, table runners, etc. Should I just wash it on a gentle cycle, with a little softener and throw it in the dyer or? I want to be able to wash it in the future. Is it better to let it air dry? Thanks!

burlap is tricky as the fibers will dry in different directions so that you get pulls going everywhere...washing it on gentle cycle then hang drying it is best as the line drying pulls its it down so its not as lumpy...the idea of lots of fabric softener or white vinegar is a good idea ...Michele'

I went ahead yesterday, as it was stinking up my house :) I washed it in gentle cycle, with softener, then ran thru the dryer, to soften it more. Came out great, soft and frayed! Since it going to be for pillows, etc. I bought extra and will iron before cutting...
