Hi, everybody. I haven't spent much time here over the last 18 months and I felt perhaps I should officially reintroduce myself.

It's been a very up-and-down year or so for me. My job was outsourced last spring, which means I've been spending a shocking amount of time at home...and strangely I haven't spent nearly as much time on the computer as I did when I was trapped in my cubicle for 8 hours every day. Funny how that works, right?

When I am at the computer, I've been doing a lot of schoolwork. I'm taking classes full time in a program cobbled together from 3 different colleges. I'm studying public relations, general computer/admin stuff, and (here's the weird one) public history/museum work. I'm hoping to someday work for a museum, and I figure the other classes can only enhance that.

You might remember that I play bass in a punk/folk band with my husband...Andy Smash & The Rustbelt Hot Rods. We put out a full length cd in January, called North Country Punk. If you'd like to check it out, you can listen to our songs for free on bandcamp (and of course, you're also welcome to download them or order a physical copy of the cd--the artwork by our friend Juni is pretty great):

But we'd barely had time to sit back and feel pleased about finishing the cd when my grandmother died. And just last week we buried my grandfather as well. He'd been her devoted caregiver for more than 10 years with Alzheimers, and he never really got over losing her. It was like he didn't have any reason to keep going anymore, and his heart just failed.

So, like I said, it's been an up-and-down kind of time for me. A few bright spots and a few dark, and a lot of change and chaos in between.

I've missed following everybody's farmgirl adventures and I'm hoping to catch up on all the growing, cooking, sewing, traveling, and etc. that's going on.

Hi Amie, Welcome back. I love the name of your band! Will have to check out the link once I'm at home...it is blocked here at work. Looking forward to hearing samples of your music. Your grandparents are at peace now. Remember them in their strong days and be happy!!

Hi Amie! I'm so sorry to hear about all the hard life changes. :-( BUT, I'm glad things are going well for your band and you're able to be back with us!

Hi Amie, I am sorry to hear about your loss. My DH reminds me that our loved ones are now whole and at peace so hopefully that will give you some peace too...I miss my parents all the time. I try to remember what DH says but guess I'm a little selfish and which they were still around. Take care of yourself and thanks for the link, can't wait to hear you music.

Hi Amie, welcome back! Seems like a lot of farmgirls who disappeared for awhile are now coming back. Glad you're here! Sorry to hear about the rough stuff going on in your life. :(

Love the band name and just got done listening to a sample of your music. Your husband (I'm assuming he's the singer) has a great voice! I'll be listening to some more songs! :)

Thanks to all of you for your kind words! I really did miss the forum.

Angie, I saw your email! Yes, please, do send me info on the Finger Lakes get-togethers.

And, yes, that's my husband doing most of the singing on our songs. He also does all the recording himself on 8-track reel to reel decks, right here in the house. It's about as homemade as a cd can get, considering that it's impossible to crochet them. Even the cd duplication company is just 5 minutes from our house!
