I am working on cleaning up an old cistern hand pump. Would love to hear about how you: sanded painted-- selected paint color or left it unpainted how you staged it in the yard
At this time it has several layers of old greenish paint peeling off. I am missing the handle. But I am tempted to stage it on my hill and get a solar pump to turn it into a waterfall/small bird waterer.
I have always loved seeing these in the yards around Augusta Missouri in front of wrap around porches.

Hi Catherine,
My husband brought an old pump from work, and he turned an old whiskey barrel into a planter. He then mounted the pump on the top of the barrel. I love it. I didnt refinish the pump.. i love the old rustic look. Connie
I have the original in my yard from the old well & cistern. The cistern is still here, right outside my kitchen door, but the state made us fill the well in about four years ago. We wanted to cry! We stuck it back in the ground where it was originally and I have a hug caldron type, metal bucket hanging from it.
