I have (well, had) this lovely ivy plant that somehow got spider mites on it. I chopped the affected leaves/branches, but they still kept coming back. So I thought if I chopped it all off, that might help....so now it looks like a pot full of dirt! Does anyone have any suggestions for keeping rid of spider mites? It never seems to fail that I get them on at least one plant, and I don't know why! I'm using a good brand of potting soil, and it's always only one plant.

I usually use a insecticidal soap on the plant. I wouldn't prune the plant back so much since if you kill the infestation, the affected areas should recover.
