You may have seen pics of our Longhorns in previous threads, but I wanted to share these with you, taken yesterday morning (Weds. 07/21) as I returned from my morning power walk.
Taking a morning break in their pasture with the periwinkle cornflowers all around.

Ebony was the only one up munching a snack . . .(she's 1/2 Longhorn but her daddy is a Angus)

Gunsmoke, our newest one, about 4 months old now. His daddy is "Nougat", mommy is "Patty".

"Snowflake" . . . she is mommy of "Ebony". Impressive set of horns, huh??

They just got moved back into this pasture as they has "mowed down" all the goodies in the pasture across the lane.
I think they're happy!

Indeed! Love how that high grass with milkweed they're all lying about. Very pretty babies!

they look so peaceful!!! is it as hot there as it is here??? none of teh animals want to be outside right now!

Yup, Gunsmoke is growing some horns . . . what a guy!!!
It is too warm for what is normal . . . but Longhorns were bred for warmer climes!!! They do have some morning and afternoon/evening shade and there is a HUGE cottonwood tree at the bottom of the pasture that all of them can get under. I like the pic of Gunsmoke . . . he looked straight at me!

They are beautiful! I love the coat colors longhorns have. I can't tell for sure in the pics, are periwinkle cornflowers the same thing us folks from the PNW call Bachelor Buttons?

I don't think the cornflowers are the same as bachelor buttons, at least not the bachelor buttons I know of.
Megan,
I can't really pet any of them. When Gunsmoke was little I could, but he won't allow it anymore. I think my hubby, who is their "boss" can touch them sometimes. But, depending on what's going on, one MUST steer clear of those horns. Sometimes all they have to do is whack you with them . . they don't have to actually POKE you.
It's always interesting to see how the coloration and markings are going to turn out. "Snowflake" is mostly white because her daddy was a white longhorn bull, but her calf "Ebony", in the second picture clearly is the offspring of an Angus bull.
They're fun and interesting!

Love the pics CeeJay! They all look very happy indeed. I know my horses and donkeys think they have died and gone to heaven to be eating yummy grass after 5 years of nothing but hay in NM...what a blessing that we are finally up here!

Beautiful CJ! I've seen alot of cows in my lifetime but I don't know that I've ever seen real long-horns. What pretty colors they are! I'll bet they love their pasture with the cornflowers! You are so lucky to live in a place where that is what you see while you are out power walking!

When I come and visit, I love to go down to the pasture with Dad to see them. They certainly do have unique personalities! He also has a way of communicating with them and they know! One time I went with him, I watched Patty come up to him and he grabbed onto one of her horns and they gently "wrestled"! Gunsmoke and Nougat have a playful relationship too! They are a unique treat! Great pictures Mom!
